Sacramento, California - Nora K Birkenstock (Holl) passed away on January 10, 2021 after a brief illness, at home in Sacramento. She is survived by son Martin Birke; grandchildren Kirsten, Nicholas (Alyssa), Sonia (Bob); great grandchildren Juliana,Jacob, Jessica, Madison, Ethan, Otto; son-in-law Paul; and relatives in Europe.
Nora was born on February 11, 1936 in Esslingen in the Swabia region of Germany. She studied art in college and maintained a lifelong enthusiasm for art. She met and married John when he served in the US Army in Germany. They came to California,John's home, and eventually settled in Sacramento . Nora received her degree in audiology from Sacramento State and practiced her vocation for many years. An avid walker, Nora was beloved by her neighbors and their dogs. She worked on various charitable causes including Sertoma. Nora's gentle warmth and humor, kindness and generosity will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A celebration of Nora's life will be held on April 24, 2:00 to 3:30 at the Cowan Park Gazebo, 3350 Becerra Way. Donations in Nora's memory may be made to the Harry Dewey Elementary School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing c/o Shane Moliason, 7025 Falcon Road, Fair Oaks, CA 95628 or a cause of the donor's choice.

I am so saddened by the news of this wonderful soul. I had the privilege to meet with Nora every year to help her with our venue for her ever-loving Oktoberfest and was always amazed at her strength in preparing this annual event. I am sad that I will never get to see her walk through my doors again but I am left with the beautiful memories of our conversations. I loved everything about her. Her grace, her speech, her really cool jewelry and her strength. May your next journey in life be eternally rich in all his glory for the footprints that she has left in each one of our lives on this earth. Can't wait till we see each other again Nora. Rest in Love and in Peace. <3

What a wonderful, wonderful woman. She and her husband have me a safe place to be in my colorful teenage years. Somewhere where I learned what a family was and her scrumptious corn chowder. She was loved by many and was a wonderful grandmother/great grandmother! Thank you for all you saved me from by simply allowing me to be a part of your family.
