Richard Bartholomew Obituary

BARTHOLOMEW, Richard A.
Passed away on April 28, 2007, to be with our Lord. Born in Sacramento on October 17, 1957, to Walter and Ethel Bartholomew. Richard was a wonderful, kindhearted family man. Devoted and hardworking, Richard dedicated his entire life to making the best of every situation. He was a proud, loving father to Priscilla, Richard, Carlos, Olivia, Krystal, and Stephanie, and a wonderful, caring brother to Virginia, Walter, Frank, Martin, Ronald, Edward, Lana, and Lisa. He was adored and loved by all his precious grandchildren. Richard worked at Paratransit for almost 26 years. His sense of humor and unique nicknames will be remembered and cherished. We will miss your smile, laughter, and your pure loving heart. We love you and miss you, dad. Never will we forget all our memories.

My love, I'm so happy we found our way back to each other.

Richard was such a wonderful person and great co worker. I will miss his laughter and smiles. I have worked with him for 15 years and enjoyed seeing him at the end of his shift every day. I am so sorry for all the pain you are going through,I hope you read the poem and it brings you some comfort.I have lost my mother, sister, grandma, and favorite aunt over the years but I know they are together watching over me, Whenever I read that poem it makes me cry,but then I feel better knowing they arent gone forever they are just waiting for us in a much greater place. Your dad must have been a really great person,so many people had such nice things to say about him. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!!

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

I was greatly saddened to hear of your passing. You were truely a kind and caring man with a pure heart of gold. My prayers & thoughts are with your family.

We were always glad to see Richard as our driver because he was always happy and would make us feel happy just to be around him. He would always kid us about where we were going or what was happening in our lives. Each summer we compared notes on the vegetable gardens we were growing and laughed at each others successes and failures.

Over the last 16 years that we have been paratransit passengers, we have come in contact with Richard many many times, much to our delight. To say that he will be missed is true, but Richard leaves us with memories of his smile, his sense of humor and his care for each of us.

Richard was one of the best Paratransit drivers. He was always smiling and laughing. You new he was genuinely interested in you and knowing how you were. He made long share rides enjoyable. Even if I was having a rough day Richard could always get you to smile. I will miss him. I wish only the best for his family. I'm so sorry for your loss.

To the Bartholomew family: My father Gabriel called me tonight to tell me that Richard passed away. We lost touch with the family, however I want to tell the entire family that I'm praying for all of you. We grew up together on Baker Avenue. I loved the Gumbo Walter use to make. I was always in the family home hoping to be invited for the Gumbo. I have a lot of fond memories of the family. He's now in heaven with my mom Chuy. She always had a special place in her heart for Richard. God Bless all of you. Live life to the fullest for tomorrow is not promised. Love you all Rosa and Gabriel

For my friend Richard (Bart-man)

This passed week all I keep thinking about is how I loved going to our break room when you were counting your fare for the day, cutting up with other drivers and no matter what, when I walked in, you would greet me with "Hey Mustang"!!! I don't think you realized how that made my day...You always were laughing, smiling and made me wish I could have had you as a friend on the outside of work. When I saw you at Bel Air on fruitridge a few weeks back and found out you were my neighbor too, I was looking forward to seeing you more often away from work around the hood! Well, today I went to your rosery and still have yet to except the fact that you weren't gonna open those beautiful eyes and wonder what the heck all the fuss was about. You have touched so many lifes and probably didn't even realize it because that's the kind and gentle soul you are. The baby that gets your soul is going to be the luckiest person in waiting. I only hope I get to meet em'. Your untimely departure has just made me realize that I need to be a better person and life is way too short to not appreciate my friends and family for who they are.

Thank you so much for touching my life. YOU ARE TRULY ONE I WILL NEVER FORGET! EVER...

I heard about Richard's passing from the driver of my Monday morning trip in to work. I was devastated to realize that such a kind and gentle soul no longer walks the earth.

To Richard's children: I hope that your dad told you some stories of the adventures of driving Paratransit passengers to work, school, medical appointments, and religious services. Cherish these precious tales if you have them.

Your dad made my day every time he arrived. His bear hug greeting warmed me whether he came to pick me up or met me on the way to get another passenger.

Richard made a point to remember my husband's name and our children's name. He supported us when we lost our oldest son 6 years ago this week. We used to laugh about my family trips to Reno and the fortunes won and lost in the same weekend.

I'm not an advocate for cloning, but in your dad's case I'd make an exception. ;-)

Cous…. your parting as left a void in the lives that you have left behind, however, you have left a part of you in our hearts and souls forever. I have to smile when I think of the many memorable fishing and hunting trips and the many times that we laughed telling the same stories over and over. I will always remember that smile and your contagious laugh. Your a good man that made the world a better place.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to Bartholomew family.
May the love of your friends and family comfort you.

Your untimely death proves the saying: "Tomorrow's not promised!" We never know the time or the day that God decides to take us back home to be with Him in Heaven. I just thank God for letting me borrow you as a co-worker and friend for a short time. You are an angel now to watch over all of us down here on Earth. One day I know I will see you again. My prayers are with the family and friends always.
