Robert Maxie Obituary

Robert Maxie
July 31, 1953 - December 27, 2021
Sacramento, California - Robert M Maxie passed away peacefully in hospital December 27, 2021. Bob was an overcomer. Although born with life-threatening health issues, and unable to play sports like his three older brothers, Bob found his expression in music.
He became an excellent guitarist in his teen years and was an avid Paul Simon fan, traveling to see him whenever possible, even as far as New York. He was and Oakland A's and Sacramento River Cats baseball fan. He enjoyed riding Honda motorcycle with his dad and brothers and attending Super Modified car races at the West Sacramento Raceway.
Bob earned his BA in Economics from UC Davis where his father, Edward Maxie, was professor of Pomology. He completed his MBA with a Specialty in Accounting and Marketing from CSUS. Bob began 39 year career with the California Department Food and Agriculture (CDFA) in 1980. He served as Chief of the Marketing Branch from 2007 to 2019. Much of Bob's work dealt with the State's agricultural interest. His no-nonsense style and amiable personality helped Bob manage his responsibilities. Bob retired in 2019 to pursue and enjoy his love of music, the company of friends and his two cats.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Libby, and brothers Edwards Jr and David. He is survived by brother, Tom (Debbie) of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, his sister-in-law, Vivian, and relatives throughout the States.
Bob respected his colleagues as more than coworkers. In recent tributes, this was said of him – Bob was an important figure in my life, unflappable, a beautiful soul, one of a kind, impeccable taste in music, a stellar public servant, a wonderful inspiration, one who always went the extra mile.
Special thanks to Bob's steadfast friend of 40+ years, Judi Semple. Knowing she was there for Bob was like a bridge over troubled water to his brother Tom and sister-in-law, Debbie, who lived so far away for so many years.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Bob and I attended some college classes together. I still have a book he gave me to help with a program class we were taking. I was wondering what became of him, and unfortunately I found this obituary. He will be missed.
