Douglas Ryder Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by St. Mary Cemetery & Funeral Center on Feb. 21, 2026.
Douglas Almon Ryder

07/04/1947- 02/12/2026

Douglas Almon Ryder, age 90, of Roseville, CA, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2026. Born in Alameda to Almon Henry and Helen Ann Ryder, Doug lived a life defined by loyalty-to his country, his friends, and above all, his family. Doug's professional life was one of dedicated service. He spent 30 years as a Santa Clara County Juvenile Probation Officer, but his military career was a particular point of pride. After serving active duty in the Army and 25 years in the Army Reserve, Doug retired in 1995 with the distinguished rank of Colonel. Beyond his uniform, Doug was a man deeply connected to family and friends. A proud UC Berkeley alumnus and member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, he took great care to stay connected with his fraternity brothers and childhood friends throughout his life. Whether he was working out in his home gym, running outdoors, or volunteering with the YMCA, Doug stayed active. He loved camping either at Lush Meadows or Yosemite and had a special love for Tahoe as well. Doug was a man of faith and a parishioner at St. Clare's Catholic Church in Roseville. He and his beloved wife, Billie, found great joy in attending jazz festivals and traveling together on many cruises. For over 30 years, Doug and Billie called Los Gatos home. It was there that they raised their children and built a community of lifelong friends among their neighbors. Doug was the beloved husband of Billie Eileen Ryder, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage. He was the proud father of Jeff, Linda, and Greg, and a doting grandfather to his nine grandchildren: Trevor, Katelyn, Dillon, Megan, Emma, Amanda, Molly, Brianna, and Grant. A service will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at St. Clare Catholic Church (1950 Junction Blvd., Roseville, CA). The Rosary will begin at 10:30 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM.
