Shirley Layton Obituary

Shirley Layton

February 3, 1943 - July 22, 2025

Roseville, California - Shirley Jane Layton was born in Monroe, Wisconsin on February 3, 1943, to parents Clifford Ault and Gertrude Wieland. Shirley lived in Wisconsin until her high school graduation. She graduated from beauty school in Arizona, where she met and married Frank Layton Sr. They spent some time moving around the country before settling in the Bay Area. Shirley studied interior design and was quite accomplished in that field. Twenty-seven years ago, Shirley moved to Sun City in Roseville with her partner Jim Lane. Shirley loved handicrafts and she played Mah-jongg. She kept her mind active by playing many other kinds of games as well. Shirley was a good friend to a lot of people; she took a genuine interest in each of her friend's lives and always kept in touch with them. She was a kind and considerate person who has left so many bereft at her passing. She will be remembered with great fondness by all who had the opportunity and privilege to know her. Shirley fought a courageous battle with late onset Friedreich's Ataxia for 45 years. She died comfortably at home with friends and family in Roseville on July 22, 2025. She leaves behind her partner, Jim, her brother Jack, his wife Nancy, her half-sister Lauren, her husband David, her son Frank and her daughter-in-law Rosalie.
