Stephen Hartridge Obituary

HARTRIDGE, STEPHEN SWAN
Stephen Swan Hartridge, 54, devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, passed away on April 8, 2002 in Roseville, California after a valiant battle with cancer. He is survived by: his wife, Ilza K. Hartridge; five children, Anne Hartridge and husband Matthew George of Sacramento, Miranda Hartridge and husband Andrew Gundershaug of Aptos, Catherine (Katy) Todd Hartridge, Dylan Swan Hartridge, and Logan John Hartridge; his mother, Margaret Todd Hartridge of Eureka; his sister Diana Hartridge McSherry and husband Patrick Poe of Houston, his sister Catherine Hartridge of Eureka; his brother-in-law, James David Painter of Portland, Oregon; and his mother-in-law, Irene Kalnins of Auburn, California. He was predeceased by his father George Gadsden Hartridge of Eureka, and his sister Judith Hartridge Painter of Sacramento. Steve graduated from Harvard University in 1970 and went directly into the real estate business. Over the past 30 years his career included real estate sales, property development, real estate lending, and real estate securities. Steve was President of the Humboldt County Board of Realtors and was elected Realtor of the Year in 1983. He served on the Board of Directors for the California Association of Realtors, the City of Eureka Housing Authority Board, the College of the Redwoods Real Estate Advisory Board, the United Way Board, and the St. Joseph Hospital Foundation Board. Steve was active with the Eureka Mainstreet program and served on the city's HUD board, which oversaw local use of urban development funds. In the '80s Steve received a statewide award from the BPW (Business and Professional Wornen's Organization) for advancing the status of women in the workplace based on his efforts at mentoring women in his office to positions of greater responsibility. Steve also served on the board of the Qua la wa loo Festival, which was a theater company that eventually became the internationally known Dell Arte School. He taught real estate finance at California State University, Humboldt, and real estate practice at College of the Redwoods. Steve owned and operated Redwood Financial, Hartridge & Associates Realtors, and other property development ventures. Steve will be greatly missed by his family, friends and business associates. A Memorial Service will be held at Hidden Valley Clubhouse, 7490 West Lane, Granite Bay, California 95746 on Saturday, April 13, 2002 at 2:00 PM.

Our hearts go out to all the family of Steve. Met him at Miranda and my nephew,Andrew's wedding. He was so courageous and leaves such a beautiful legacy.
