Geraldine Holshouser Obituary
She was born October 8, 1931, in Davie County, NC, the daughter of the late Fred A. and Ethel Hendrix Sides. Mrs. Holshouser was a graduate of Rockwell High School, retired from General Electric, and served as Treasurer for Holshouser Incorporated for many years. Mrs. Holshouser was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Salisbury where she was active with the Ladies Group. She was active with different organizations over the years, serving as the Chaplain of the Ladies Auxiliary and Bible Chairman with Gideons International and was a member of the Pregnancy Support Council, now Life Choices Rowan. She and her husband, Don, traveled extensively in their retirement and enjoyed their trips with the Happy Travelers Club.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Holshouser was preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Gail Holshouser Richards; and brothers, Rev. Eugene Sides, Freddie Sides, and Jim Sides.
She is survived by her husband, Donald L. Holshouser, whom she married July 3, 1949; daughter, Joyce Holshouser Benton and her husband, Samuel E. Benton, Jr.; son, Michael L. Holshouser and his wife, Sheila Holshouser; son-in-law, Dr. Jeffrey Richards; brothers, Bill Sides and Johnny Sides; sister, Dot Gregory; grandchildren, Samuel E. Benton, III, Emily Richards Strobach, Lauren Richards Rosenfarb, Justin Holshouser, Matthew Holshouser, and Wesley Holshouser; and four great grandchildren.
The family will greet friends and relatives from 5:30 PM until 7:30 PM on Wednesday, July 23, at Powles Staton Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, July 24, at Calvary Baptist Tabernacle, with the Rev. Dr. Steve Holshouser, officiating.
Burial will follow at Brookhill Memorial Gardens in Rockwell.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Mrs. Holshouser's caregivers, Lois Merchant and Brooke Elium, for their years of dedication and love.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607 or Life Choices Rowan, 847 South Main Street, Salisbury, NC 28144.
