Raymond Austin Obituary

Raymond Stacy Austin, 84 of Salisbury passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on Saturday, May 25th.
He was born January 8, 1940 to the late Julius Calvin Austin and Adora Mitchell Austin Harter. He was preceded in death by his 2 brothers, Noel and Gary and also by a son Raymond Stacy Austin, Jr.
Raymond graduated from Ellis Cross Roads Elementary School and Spencer High School and also had 2 years of college in Electronic Technology.
Raymond served honorably in the US Army 69th Signal Corp and was stationed in Orleans, France. He was on the Commanding Generals Rifle Team and was a Perfect Marksman winning numerous trophies and awards. At age 12 he started working on Farms at Ellis Cross Rds for the Shupings and worked for them until he joined the Army.
He loved gardening and working outside. After completing his service with the US Army he worked for Wagoner Supply Company for 16 years and then went to work at Oakwoods Homes, Clayton Homes and Liberty Homes as a lead electrician until he came down with colon cancer in 1992 and was given 2 years to live and made it almost 30 years.
Left to cherish his memory is wife, Mary Ruth Shue Austin, who he was married to for 58 years, his son David Austin, sister in law Nancy Shue, sister Elona Boulware and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a memorial service on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Salisbury conducted by Pastor Joshua Copeland. Visitation will follow the memorial service.
Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church for Grace Quilters or to the building fund, 3020 Grace Church Road, Salisbury, NC 28147.
