Wayne Vellines Obituary

Wayne Whitley Vellines, 78, of Salisbury, passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte, NC.

He was born on June 4, 1947, in Salisbury, North Carolina, to the late James Whitley Vellines and Effie Kluttz Vellines. A proud graduate of East Rowan High School, Class of 1965, he went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Catawba College in 1969. Mr. Vellines retired from the State of North Carolina after more than 40 years of dedicated service, including over 30 years in a full-time capacity and 14 part-time. A cancer survivor, he lived life with gratitude and joy, treasuring time spent with his family-especially his grandsons, who were the light of his life. A lifelong member of Union Lutheran Church, he faithfully served as an usher, Sunday school teacher, and on the church council. His quiet strength, steadfast faith, and devotion to family and community will be deeply missed.

Mr. Vellines enjoyed watching NASCAR, cheering on Legion and Braves baseball, and meeting friends for breakfast. A beach lover at heart, he found peace camping by the shore and riding his golf cart along the coast.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Pamela Morgan Vellines , whom he married, June 2 1990; daughter, Janice Vellines (Tommy) Goodman of Salisbury; two grandchildren, Justin (Gracie) Goodman and Tyler (Jade) Goodman; sister, Lana (Eric) Brown of Mooresville; brother, Ronald (Janie) Vellines of Salisbury; nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion, his fur baby, Andy.

The family will greet friends and relatives on Monday, July 28, 2025, 10:00 am - 10:45 am at Union Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, Salisbury, NC.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, July 28, 2025, in the Union Lutheran Church, with Rev. Heidi Punt, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Union Lutheran Church Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to two exceptional nurses at Novant Health Presbyterian Neuro ICCU, Bobby Mitchell and Nathaniel McLean, for their outstanding care and compassion. Special thanks are also extended to the Hospice Unit at Presbyterian for their support and kindness during a difficult time.

Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116, Faithful Friends, 220 Grace Church Rd, Salisbury, NC 28147 or Union Lutheran Church, 4770 Bringle Ferry Rd, Salisbury, NC 28146.

I am so sorry to hear that you've lost your dad and brother. Janice, I remember your Dad so lovingly caring for you and always being so supportive when you were in my kindergarten class at Granite Quarry Elementary many years ago.
