Afton Anderson Obituary

(1917~2014)
Our beloved mother, sister, and friend, Afton Mahoney Anderson, returned to Heavenly Father on Thursday, 24 April 2014, at the age of 96 years old, due to a sudden and unexpected illness. "God saw her getting tired, and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around her and whispered 'Come to me.' With tearful eyes we watched her, and saw her pass away. Although we love her dearly, we could not make her stay."
Afton was born 9 November 1917, in Lake Creek, Wasatch County, Utah to Louris V. and Mary Crook Mahoney. She was raised in Wasatch County, Utah, where she graduated from Wasatch High School and LDS seminary in 1936. She attended LDS Business College in Salt Lake City, and took extension course work from Brigham Young University and the University of Utah.
Afton married Carl Elmer Anderson 6 January 1950. Their marriage was solemnized 8 June 1965 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She lived an exemplary life as a wife, mother, and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in numerous LDS Church (ward and stake) callings. She was generous and caring, and her kindness affected many lives for the better. She was positive and optimistic and looked for the good in everything, and in everyone, and never said an unkind word about anyone. She was the best mother and will be remembered by all who knew and loved her.
Afton was an accomplished seamstress and cook, and enjoyed reading, bowling, gardening, sewing, fishing, camping, hiking, genealogy, and photography. She read both the Deseret News and Salt Lake Tribune daily until a week prior to her death. She was proud of her pioneer heritage and was a long-time member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She was a member of the Wasatch Mountain Club during the 1940s. She worked for First Security Bank of Utah for twenty-five years. She met her, husband, Carl at First Security.
Survived by her daughters: Mary Teresa and Carla Afton; sister, Glenna; and brother Neil and his wife, Doris; and sisters-in-law, Ruth Carlile, Elaine Uffens, and Audrey Wilks.
Preceded in death by parents; husband; an infant son; brothers, Dale and Grant; brothers-in-law, Joseph Lloyd, Ralph Wilks, Orlando "Duff" Uffens, Dewey Davis, and Ralph Crezee; and sisters-in-law, Lucile Buell Mahoney, Ruth Anderson Davis, and Blanche Anderson Crezee; and dear family members, Rusty, KittyBelle, Pepe, and Cisco.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, 3 May 2014, at Noon, in the Brickyard Ward chapel, 1111 Charlton Ave. (2810 So. 1100 East.) Family and Friends may call Friday, 2 May 2014, from 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, or from 11:00-11:45 a.m., prior to the service at the Brickyard Ward.
Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South). Directors, Larkin Mortuary.

I remember her sweet voice. Missed being able to see her because of her illness. I marvel at how many things she used to do. I am happy she is at peace now. With love to her two daughters. Jean Ross
