Erin Ray Obituary

1981 ~ 2020
On Thursday, December 10, 2020 Erin Michelle Ray, 39, of Las Vegas was killed while riding the 130 mile Nipton Loop with a group of talented and experienced cyclists. A truck struck the back of the group killing Erin, four of her friends and injuring three others.
Erin was born on July 31, 1981 in Wichita, Kansas. She grew up in Kansas, Florida and Holladay, Utah. She graduated from Olympus High School.
After graduation, she moved to Las Vegas working hard to obtain her Realtor license. She loved finding the perfect home for her clients. She developed a passion for physical fitness. She worked hard at swimming, running and cycling but her favorite was cycling competitively. Her fierceness, focus and determination drove her. At the same time, she was a champion for anyone who wanted to ride, bike or swim.
Erin was passionate about life.
Erin is survived by her parents, Ellen and Edward Leis of Colorado, brothers Evan (Amy) Leis of Sandy, Utah and Eric Leis of London, UK, her father, Robin Ray and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, all who loved her dearly.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all who have shown their love and support.
We plead for every driver to pay attention to the others on the road. Inattentive driving is inexcusable and the damage often irreversible.

I just learned Erin died. So terribly sad. She was a R.E. colleague & a Toll Brothers neighbor. I had a short sale listing near the M and she wrote an offer on behalf of her investor. Deal fell through unfortuneately. We drove the same 550 SL Mercedes w/personalized plates. Saw her all the time coming nad going through gate gate. I pray she left house keys for someone to take care of her 4 legged baby. We had Traccia parks dates on occasion. RIP Erin - You left as the others cyclists, WAY TOO SOON!

Our hearts go out to Ed, Ellen, Evan and Eric and all the family. We are so sad that this tragic accident took her life. Erin was a lovely, talented young woman and a good friend to our daughter, Kim.

I do not know Erin, but as an avid cyclist here in Texas, this hit home and it is like I did know her in a way. My heart breaks for the family and know that feeling when you have to ride even though you know the risks. I was hit in July by a distracted motorist after riding 30 years with no accidents. In a cyclist’s mind, you try to have faith that people have eyes wide open. I will remember Erin everytime I get on my bike and every year on 12/10.
