Gary Tingey Obituary

Gary C. Tingey 7/25/36 ~ 11/20/07 BOUNTIFUL Gary C. Tingey, 71, passed away on November 20, 2007, surrounded by his wife and children, after an illness other than the cancer he patiently battled for many years. Gary was born on July 25, 1936, in Grace, Idaho, the second of five children of Carmen and Gen Tingey. He was proud of his heritage and loved the country and people of Grace and Grays Lake, Idaho, although Centerville was the home of his adult life. He married Ruth Forsberg on November 30, 1956, in the Salt Lake Temple, and they had six children. Gary was a skilled electrician and a successful businessman. He founded and then operated GT Electric, Inc. for 28 years until retiring in 2001. Gary was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and fulfilled many callings. He touched the lives of a generation of young men with his leadership, friendship and sense of humor. He frequently served his community; the Centerville July Fourth parade regularly featured his horse-drawn carriages and wagons. Gary worked hard and he could play hard, as was evident to anyone who golfed with him or tried to keep up with him on a snowmobile as he maneuvered up Caribou Mountain. He was always happiest when he was with his family, especially at the Grays Lake ranch. Gary is survived by his wife of nearly 51 years, Ruth, his children, Wendy (Alan) Spencer, Carrie (Grant) Petersen, Brett (Lonii), Jean (Todd) Leishman, Trent and Wade (Lori), 24 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, his brothers, Monte and Steve, and his sister Carma Latvala. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Bonnie Woolf. Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 26, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Centerville 6th Ward building, 900 S. 400 E., Centerville. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 25, 2007 at the Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Nov. 26, 2007 at the Centerville 6th Ward building. Interment-Centerville City Cemetery. The family thanks Dr. Regina Klein and the staff of the Huntsman Cancer Institute, as well as the staff of Lakeview Hospital, for their professionalism and kindness. We love you dad, and will miss you everyday. Online guest book at www.russonmortuary.com

Ruth and family... I was so sorry to hear of Gary's passing. I have wonderful memories of my childhood in Centerville but the fondest ones are of you, Gary and your children. I felt safe and warm under your care and will cherish those memories forever. It was only a few months ago you were there supporting me in the passing of our son. Thank you so much for that support. Illness prevented us from showing that same support in your time of need but know we had the best of intentions and our thoughts and prayers are with you. We are only a phone call away should you need us. With much love...

Dear Ruth,
I am so sorry I did not see Gary in the hospital. I was planning on running their on my lunch hour when that morning I received a call from the Bishop about his passing. I want you to know how much the High Priest's Quorum in the 6th Ward will miss him. His great sense of humor. His willingness to help anyone at anytime. We will miss him in the meetings. We will miss him in our annual golf tournament. We will miss him as a friend and neighbor. I want you to know how much we love you also and how much we want to help you do those things that Gary "just took care of". May you know of our concern.
Sincerely, Clark Yospe & Emma

Dear Ruth, I am so saddened for you and your family for your loss. Gary was always such a delight to be around, I loved his jokes and sense of humor, he always made everyone feel good about being around him. Even though I saw him only frequently, I was always greeted with warmth and affection. This good man will be missed by all who knew him.

It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of this great man. Berdene and I are in Maryland at the current time and will not be home for Gary's funeral. Our memories go back many years of our association with this wonderful family. Gary was (is) a "man's man" but while he certainly had a "manly" way about him it is his kindness and willingness to serve others that we will remember most. He could always make me laugh and was always free with his recognition and compliments of others. What a man!! Goodbye dear friend..at least for now. Dave & Berdene Hill
