Grace Davis Obituary

Grace Marlene Rawlinson Davis
1933 - 2015
Sandy, Utah-Marlene R. Davis died June 13, 2015 at the age of 81. She was born on November 19, 1933 to James Clemont Rawlinson and Grace Howes. She married Edward Harold Davis on August 31, 1953 in the Salt Lake Temple. As a very young child Marlene enjoyed exploring the surroundings of her hometown in Delta, Utah, where she was born. Her mother needed to tether her to the close line to keep her close to home. She had a very adventuresome spirit. Her family later moved to Salt Lake City where she attended East High School and participated in many school activities such as the choir and school plays. Most of all, Marlene was very proud to be an East High Leopard. She met and fell in love with her "hubby" to be, Eddie, while singing in her ward choir in Salt Lake City, Utah, and they continued in harmony for the rest of their lives. Marlene served in many wonderful callings in the LDS church such as Ward Relief Society Counselor, Stake Young Women's President and Primary. She had a very strong testimony and was an amazing example for all of her family. Ed and Marlene enjoyed traveling the entire continental United States, visiting every state and enjoying the beauty of this great country. They also enjoyed their time at McKee Draw (near Vernal, UT), and camping and back packing in the Uinta Mountains with their family. Marlene was a very gifted pianist and was happy to have the opportunity to accompany or direct ward choirs wherever they lived. She also had a very beautiful voice and loved to sing. She enjoyed playing the piano right up until the last few months of her life. She was a very accomplished seamstress and used that skill to sew many clothing items, both for herself and her children including several prom dresses, suits and her daughters wedding dress. Marlene loved to paint pottery items and was very talented with toll painting, as well as knitting, crocheting, and cross stitch. Her home was beautifully and tastefully decorated with items that she made. She and Edward served together in the Singapore Mission and in the Salt Lake City Inner City mission as well as a third mission at the Sandy, Utah LDS Employment Center. Marlene dedicated her life to her family and was a wonderful mother and everyone who met her said she was the sweetest person they have ever met. In her later years she dedicated herself to family history and genealogy. She is survived by her children; Lowell Davis (Teri), Rebecca Layton (Stan), Julie MacKay (Doug); and her brother, James Rawlinson (Mary), seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Her parents, and her eternal sweetheart and best friend in life, Edward, preceded her in death. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 22, 2015 at 12:00 noon at the Mountain View Memorial Chapel, 3115 East 7800 South, Cottonwood Heights. There will also be a viewing Sunday evening from 6-7:30 pm, and Monday morning 10:30 -11:30 am prior to the funeral services, also held at the Mountain View Memorial Mortuary. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.mountainviewmortuary.com. The interment will take place following the services at the Mountain View Memorial Cemetery. We would like to give special thanks to all the wonderful caregivers at the Sandy Atria Assisted Living Center, Draper Rehab Facility and home health and hospice provided by Tender Care, for all their love, compassion and friendliness that they showed to our sweet mother. Everywhere Marlene lived everyone felt her graciousness and pure love and were so grateful to have known her.

We do not have to know a family to have empathy for them when they lose a loved one. I wish to express my heartfelt sympathy for the family of Grace Marlene Rawlinson Davis during your time of sorrow. May you find comfort from the God of all comfort who helps us to cope in times of distress. May you also receive support and encouragement from friends and family.

I send my condolences to Marlene's family and especially to her brother Jim and wife Mary. I remember her as a young girl playing the Piano at the 27th and 27th East Ward in Salt Lake City and playing a piece for the Primary rhythm band. I later learned hou to play the same piece for my Kindergarten rhythm band when I taught Kindergarten years later. May the Lord bless you all at this time of Grief. I also remember her Parents from years ago. Love, kathryn MacKay Jones
