Jerry Good Obituary

Jerry Keith Good

December 30, 1943 - February 9, 2022

Salt Lake City, Utah —Jerry, Husband, Father, Papa, Friend, passed away peacefully in the early morning on February 9, 2022.

Jerry battled and survived 3 bouts of cancer, only to get Covid and lose the battle. Take it seriously folks!

Jerry was born in Mayfield, Utah to Dan and Ruth Good on December 30, 1943. Jerry loved growing up in Mayfield and the mountains were his happy place.

Jerry graduated from Gunnison High, Utah State University, and received his master's degree in Mathematics from the University of Utah. He was an avid Ute fan with season tickets to basketball and football for over 40 years, but secretly routed for the Aggies. Jerry's early career was teaching High School Math at Kearns High School, with a cool summer job of driving the train at Utah's Hogle Zoo. Jerry loved teaching and had a positive influence on many young minds, but after 12 years in the classroom, Hogle Zoo won out with an offer he couldn't resist. That offer became a 45 year second career culminating as the Assistant Director of Finance upon his retirement. He always joked that he left one Zoo for Another.

Jerry loved to travel and was "The Master Planner" of numerous amazing trips. He was happiest planning family vacations to Hawaii, Florida and California. The kids made him a Disney Fan early on. He also enjoyed planning getaways with friends. Golf was a major part of his life. It wasn't so much about the game, but rather the outing. He loved golfing with the "Guys" every Monday & Wednesday, and on all those trips he took. He was so excited to pass his love of the game onto the next generation and see his Granddaughter make the golf team in high school, and watch his grandson drive the green at 12 years old. Jerry loved yard work...I know...But he did, and he took pride in creating a beautiful yard to enjoy.

Jerry married Linda Farmer on June 20th 1968. Having him for a husband for 53 years was everything you could ever ask for. Together we worked hard to ensure our sons had every opportunity they wanted, and he was so proud of them, and loved them deeply.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents (Dan and Ruth) and is survived by his Brother, Leslie (Connie), Sister, Loretta (Bob), Wife, Sons, Shawn, Bryan (Amber), Granddaughter, Dakota, Grandson, Chase (both were his pride & joy) and many, many friends.

A visitation be held on February 17, 2022 from 12-2pm at Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery; 6500 S Redwood Rd, West Jordan, Utah, with interment to follow.

My first job as a sixteen year-old kid was working with Jerry at the zoo. He was also my math teacher at Kearns high school. He was a great guy, I learned a lot from him, and ended up a math teacher myself. I just retired after 35 years a couple of years ago.

I was working at Hogle Zoo when he took over from Mr. Anderson. He was so easy going in his excellence. Best summer job I could imagine.

My deepest most heartfelt condolences to Linda, Bryan, Shawn, Amber, Dakota and Chase. Jerry was a warrior in the face of some serious health struggles and yet I never ever heard him complain. You know, I can´t remember when we first met - in a meeting I guess. At least I don´t remember a formal introduction when I came to work at the Zoo in ´03. But soon Jerry and I would become more than co-workers, we became friends and compadres, bonding especially over our shared passion for golf. And we played often together. Boy, did we! Name a course from Wolf Creek in Eden to South Mountain in Draper and we played it. He was a lot of fun on business trips to Orlando and Atlanta, always choosing just the most perfect restaurants and of course, arranging rounds of golf on the most fantastic courses. He sure loved Hogle Zoo. And I loved him as my boss. He was always supportive and encouraging of me and the work I did for the Zoo. I will miss my friend Jerry.

I just checked my messages and learned about his passing and offer my deepest sympathies to his family. I remember him from the algebra classes when I was a sophomore and junior years and the computer science class I took from him in my senior year, He was a very friendly & outgoing teacher.

Hey, Linda -- so sorry to hear about Jerry. I taught with him for 11 years and breakfasted with him on Fridays on and off for about 30. Good guy and good friend. He'll be missed by us all.

We always had the best food adventures when we traveled to AZA conventions. Our group was in Atlanta, and we got kicked out of a restaurant because a girls with us had on Jeans. So Jerry found us another place, which turned out to be a better place. Also, driving with him was a real adventure. Lots of close calls, but a lot of laughs. Such a loss for all of us. He was a real friend and dedicated to the Zoo.

Dear Linda, I´m so sorry for your loss of such a wonderful, loving man. He was such a great Math teacher. He was so young and cute, all the girls at school had big crushes on him. Your obituary was so lovingly written. It helped us learn what an awesome man and husband he was. I´m happy the two of you had such an amazing life together and so sad that Covid took him from you. You´re in my prayers. Love, Debbie
