Kellie Dangerfield Obituary

Kellie Lee Dangerfield
"Flying High on Life"
Our beautiful Kellie was born on October 28, 1986, to Jill Johnson Dangerfield and Clay Dangerfield, and passed away on September 16, 2015. She was the mischievous "middlest" child and the ringleader of many adventures with her sisters Connie and Leigha. When she was little, you never knew which Kellie you were going to get. If she came running toward you, you didn't know if she was going to kick you or give you a hug! Kellie was sassy and stubborn, but she was so full of life she would light up the room with her smile and contagious laugh.
Kellie fell in love with gymnastics at the age of 7. She trained and competed at the Gymnastics Training Center. When asked where she felt most at home, she said the gym. She always had amazing coaches and said they were like parents and her teammates were like sisters. She drove her coaches crazy but they loved her. She especially loved the balance beam and bars. She won numerous awards and State championships. Later she competed at Southern Utah University on athletic scholarship, where she won many awards, including first team all-WAC (beam and bars), WAC champion on beam (2008), academic all-WAC scholar athlete, and numerous others. After college she was a beloved coach at GTC, where she adored each and every one of her "babies".
Kellie was famous for her crazy Halloween costumes and her "back-kick". She was a social butterfly, and had many close friends whom she loved deeply. Her heart was huge. Kellie had special close relationships with her mom and dad. Kellie would leave little notes on Jill's car for her to find, and she would call Clay with her random stories and ramble on for hours. Her best friends were her sisters Connie and Leigha. She brought a smile to everyone, she included everyone, and she was her family's biggest support. She was our KellBell, Cowbell and our bird. She loved puzzles, running, and hiking, and her goal for this year was to finally learn to ski. Her autobiography, titled "Flying High on Life" and written at age 14, was dedicated to "all the coaches and teachers who have believed in me and taught me to believe in myself!"
Kellie attended Kearns-St. Ann School, Churchill Junior High, and graduated from Skyline High School. She graduated from Southern Utah University in 2009 with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice and received a Master's Degree in Social Work at the University of Utah in 2014 with honors. She worked as a Social Service Coordinator at the Salt Lake Legal Defender Association.
Kellie is survived by her mom, Jill, her dad, Clay (Laurie), sisters Connie Dangerfield Rothacher (Nick), Leigha Dangerfield, and Hailie Dangerfield and stepsiblings Corey Wardle, Breann Wardle, and Todd Wardle. She is also survived by great aunt Sherl Johnson, uncle Jim Johnson, cousin Nora Johnson and daughter Madison, uncle and aunt Lynn and Cheryll Christensen, cousins Jason and Karen Christensen, aunt and uncle Bob and Debby Marquis, cousin Michelle Marquis Paz (John), and many great friends, coaches and gymnastics teammates.
A celebration of life in honor of Kellie for her family and friends will be held at an Open House on Saturday, October 24, 2015, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Activity Barn at Wheeler Farm, 6351 South 900 East. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the fund in her name at Southern Utah University Gymnastics in Cedar City, Utah.
