Kirsten Hinckley Obituary

Kirsten Elizabeth Hinckley "Sweet Baby Kirsten" 6/9/91 ~ 2/12/07 Kirsten Elizabeth Hinckley, age 15 passed away February 12, 2007 at Trolley Square in Salt Lake City. She was born June 9, 1991 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Carolyn Tuft and Stephen Hinckley. She was a sophomore at Brighton High School. Our Kirsten was passionate, talented, had a zest for life and was above all, kind and loving. When she liked something or someone, she didn't just like it, she loved it. This was something her friends and family knew well. She was the most loyal friend you could ever ask for, putting friends before all else. She was the person you went to when you needed to talk, she was so trustworthy. Even though she was shy at first, when she came out of her shell, she brightened everything. Her smile and laugh really were contagious. She had the ability to make everyone laugh and to make every moment positive no matter what the situation was. Her cure for everything was "chocolate therapy." Kirsten set high standards for herself. She was a great student and was planning to attend Bartlett College in England. There is no doubt in anyone's mind she would have reached that goal if she had been allowed to stay with us. She is still the light of her family's life. They feel she is the most tender, kindhearted person they have ever known, the most loving daughter, sister, friend that anyone could have. We will dearly miss her presence and the light she brought to our lives. Beautiful, sweet baby Kirsten, we love you "forever and always." She is survived by her parents, Carolyn Tuft and Stephen Hinckley; siblings, Parker (23), Scott (20), and Kaitlin (18); grandparents, Audrey and Grant Tuft, and Jean and Michael Hinckley; many aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday March 7, 2007 at the Butler Stake Center, 7035 Nutree Drive (3000 East). A viewing will be held Tuesday March 6, 2007 from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. both at the stake center. Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, under the direction of Wasatch Lawn Mortuary. Tributes and stories can be sent to the family at www.MeM.com

I was Kirstens math teacher the year she passed. I often think back to the day after the shooting when a vice-principal caught me on the way to my class to tell me she was a victim in the shooting the prior night. I walked to class in a daze. I was emotional when it was announced over the speaker as they had a moment of silence and I remember a student asked why I was crying. I couldn't find the words then, but I can now. I felt deep sorrow losing Kirsten. Her personality and beautiful smile always brightened my day. She will forever be missed.

I do not know your family personally, however I want you to know your family has been in my prayers. I am so sorry for the sorrow you must be feeling. It has caused me to stop and take that extra minute in the mornings before my girls go off to school, to give them an extra tight hug and tell them how beautiful they are, and to hug and kiss them every night before they fall asleep. My heart goes out to you, and hope you soon feel some comfort. May God Bless you.

Carolyn and Family! Though we have never met, we have been deeply saddened by what you have been through. I cannot claim to understand what you are all going through, but I do know that all of you have been in our thoughts every single day since this has happened. Carolyn, you have been through so much yourself, you are an inspiration to me. I know you will continue to get well. Also, being very close to my own daughter, thanks for all you've done to let Rachel heal through your own family too! If we can ever do anything for any of you, please let us know. I hope to meet you in the future!!! We love and pray for you every day!

Every time I walk into Elisha's room and her pictures with Kirsten and the "gang" I start to cry. She is such a beautiful girl and was such an angel in our home whenever she was there. Please know that you have been in our prayers and thoughts. She will always have a place in our hearts and I know that her influence will continue to touch the lives of those who knew her in a positive way. I have felt her watching over Elisha a number of times. Please let us know how we can help you in the future.

Dear Carolyn and family, We have been thinking about your family. Though we have never met we have a family tie. My Aunt was Jeanine Weber Hunt and I have heard her talk about the Tuft family. May God be with you always.

March 6, 2007

Dear Tuft and Hinckley Family,

I don't know your family, but you have touched my heart in so many ways. Stephen, I think it is so wonderful that you waited for Carolyn to be released from the hospital so she could be with her beautiful baby girl one more time here or until they meet again. Kirsten is such a beautiful girl. I had just left Trolley Square after picking up a Valentines gift for my son's girlfriend at Bath and Body Works. It is so hard to imagine life could change so fast and without reason. Carolyn, I pray that you recover completely from your injuries, stay strong and remember that you are loved by so many. With deepest sympathy, Ms. Webb

We thought of you with love today,
But that is nothing new.

We thought about you yesterday,
And days before that, too.

We think of you in silence.
We often speak your name.

Now all we have are memories,
And your picture in a frame.

Your memory is our keepsake
With which we'll never part.

God has you in His keeping.
We have you in our heart.

Just a little
Note to say
You're fondly thought of
Every day.

Thoughts of you
Always make me smile
So I wanted to write
'Cause it's been awhile.

Hope you're happy
And things are fine
Dear Friend of Mine!

I have so many wishes
That I've stored up in my heart
Today I sit here thinking-
I'm not sure where to start.

I wish to send you Smiles
So that all throughout your day
You'll think of only happy things
And life will go your way.

Next, I wish to send you Hugs
The warm and snuggly kind
You'll feel them with you constantly
More sincere hugs you couldn't find.

Of course, I wish you lots of Love
Forever and especially for you
A heart filled with love so sweet
Never-ending and oh so true.

Sunshine, Laughter and all Happy things
I wish for you today
And all God's Blessings be with you
Forever and in so many ways.

Kirsten was my little sisters best friend and we all loved her dearly! There was not a time that she was at my house that she was not smiling and making everybody else laugh. She had a laugh and smile that brightened up the room and made it a happier place to be. I will miss Kirsten as I know many will. However, we will always carry the memories we have. Hold on to the good times, and just remember she is always with you laughing and smiling.

Kirsten i will never forget your smile and the way you could light up my day just by walking past me and waving and smiling in the hall. You had this glow about you that made the room light up. I will never forget your 8th grade birthday party when we had a dance off and watched Texas Chainsaw Massacre for the first time, and how i told Alex to get off the couch cause i had spine-abifida(hahahhaah). Well you will be a gorgeous angel. I will always remember you. Put in a good word with the boss for me. love you baby girl! Never Stop Smiling!!!!

Once again my heart bleeds reading aout how a senseless tragedy takes the life of someone so innocent. I commend the family on such a positive effort to rally in the legacy of this beautiful girl, and the positive outlook she had on life. I have not had to face such an event in my own life, but can only imagine the pain. Your strengths are unremarkable. I do not know your family or Kirsten, but my thoughts and prayers go out to your family. Her tribute and newspaper article is truley inspiring. You are right, it sounds like she really was an amazing girl.
