Lois Janke Obituary

Lois N. Janke
1924 - 2013
Our dear mother, grandmother and friend, Lois N. Janke left this mortal life on October 17, 2013, freed from a long affliction with Alzheimer's to be reunited with those who have passed on before. Born August 2, 1924 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Mary Alida Wright and Niels Rasmus Nielsen. She was the sixth of eight children. She married Leland Eric Janke August 7, 1945 in Salt Lake City, Utah (later divorced) and was a devoted mother to her three children.
Lois graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Education and Music and was an active member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She taught at Hawthorne Elementary, was an avid reader, tennis player and member of the Daughter of the Utah Pioneers.
A gifted pianist, Lois willingly shared her talents professionally accompanying vocalists, musicians and choirs. She blessed countless lives with her musical talent.
A faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lois served in many callings including Relief Society President and fulfilled a senior-mission to the Atlanta, Georgia Temple (Spanish speaking).
As a beloved matriarch, Lois was always interested in her family and planned many memorable holiday celebrations. We'll cherish memories of her at the piano while we all sang.
She is survived by her two sons: Lane E. Janke (Janet), Mark L. Janke (Annie), and her daughter, Jill Ostler (Gordon), 13 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, siblings and a granddaughter, Talese Turner. A heartfelt thanks to CareSource Hospice.
A viewing will be held on Tues., October 22, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Olympus Stake Center on 2675 East 4430 South. Funeral services will be held on Wed., October 23, 2013 at 11:30 am, viewing prior from 10:30 to 11:15 am. Interment Salt Lake City Cemetery.

Memories and Condolences
for Lois Janke

Not sure what to say?

October 27, 2013

I have such happy memories of the Janke family from the Holladay 23rd ward. No one played the piano like Lois and she and LaRue Hathaway spent so many hours organizing and leading the youth choir. Lane, Mark and Jill you had a wonderful mother and all these years I have used her chile recipe. It's still my favorite!
Love,
Julie Rogers Pierce

Aunt Lois was always so kind and loving towards me. I was grateful for her righteous example and was awed by her musical talent. She was ever generous with her time, being willing to play at a moment's notice. Her beautiful music brought the Spirit to countless people through her life. I feel blessed to have felt her loving influence.

We pray you will be blessed with comfort and peace at this time, and a strengthened testimony of our Heavenly Father's great plan of happiness.

With much love,

Connie (Nola Jean Nielsen Kralik's daughter) and Greg Goates and family

When the Holladay 23rd Ward was first organized (now the Olympus 8th), I was an 18 year old member of the ward. Lois and LaRue Hathaway were the talented ladies that provided so many wonderful musical experiences for those of us fortunate to be part of the road shows and other creative opportunities. I remember Lois sitting at the organ or piano, so talented, able to play anything, always sharing her time and talents. Those experiences have and will always remain happy memories. I send my heart felt sympathy and love to the Janke family.

A wonderful, talented lady who helped make many a Christmas Eve special for our family! Singing around the piano "Jingle Bells" "Up on the House Top" and many more are cherished memories. All our love to Jill, Gordon and family and to all the Jankes.

With love,
