Philip Salazar Obituary

Philip "Kirk" Salazar
1956-2015
Salt Lake City-Our loving husband, papa, grandpa, brother, and uncle Philip Kirk Salazar passed away Monday, August 31, 2015, following a short and a hard fought battle with cancer. He was born January 20, 1956 in Salt Lake City to Philip and Lois Salazar. Kirk grew up in Salt Lake, graduated from South High School in 1974 and then attended the University of Utah. He married his love Sue Dyment, in Elko, Nevada March 23, 1980. Kirk was passionate about his family, especially talking about his children and brand new granddaughter. Kirk worked at UPS for 37 years. He loved telling people about getting to drive the prettiest drive every day, up and down Big Cottonwood Canyon. When Kirk wasn't working he loved watching and playing golf; going to Utah Jazz games, even when he had to stay in line all night to get playoff tickets; following all University of Utah sports, especially basketball; going to Wendover; making the lights in his yard look perfect for "Christmas Street"; taking care of his dogs; and going on vacation with Sue to visit their kids in Seattle. Kirk is preceded in death by his parents Philip and Lois Salazar. He is survived by his wife Sue Salazar; children J.D. Salazar (Kate), Jessica Chirillo (Taylor); granddaughter Winifred Salazar; sister Kay Salazar (Gale Brady); nephews Dustin Telford (Kim), Ian Telford, Mike Davis; nieces Staley Cave (Tim), Heather Talbot (Aaron), Ally Sorenson (Kolby); special family members Mark and Flava Sacco, Kim and Les Hope.
In lieu of a funeral, a celebration of Kirk's life will be held at a later date. "A Utah Man Am I"

My favorite memories of Kirk are from the many New Years' celebrations our families spent together playing poker and eating his delicious ham roll ups. Kirk, you will be deeply missed. Thank you for all the fun memories. Love, Melinda and the Bezdjian family

This is horrible news. I'm in shock. Without a doubt he loves you guys more than anything in the entire world. He was even a good neighbor! Are you guys holding up? What can I do to help you? Right now, please settle for huge hugs from across the country. I love you guys. A lot. For real. Whatever you need me to do, I will. Find me on Facebook.

So sorry to read about Kirk. The Salazar family holds a special place in my heart. Cancer sucks. I lost my wife to it also on June 15.

Kay,
You might not remember me, but I spent much of my youth during the middle '60's in your neighborhood while visiting my Bosh cousins. We had some fun times with Kirk. Years later, I saw your Dad, & he proudly told me how Kirk had become quite a good golfer. I am sorry for your loss.

It's been many years, but I smile thinking about Kirk. We had a lot of laughs and I never beat him in golf. If you knew him, you understand.
May his family know there are a lot of SH Cubs out there who hold this man with highest regard. Rest in peace old friend.

So sorry to hear of Kirk's passing, he had been our ups driver for many years, we became friends and he was deeply missed when he retired this past January, we keep telling the new drivers that they need to learn our deliveries and what to do with them the way he did, we were spoiled by his service.

My husband, Wyatt, is the UPS driver that would deliver to the Salazar house. I met Wyatt his first week as a driver over 10 years ago. Wyatt worked very close to Kirk's route, and I often heard Wyatt say what a great help he was whenever he was in a bind. Sounds like he was always willing to help a fellow driver, and with Wyatt being so new to driving at that time, he was very grateful for his help! Sounds like he will be missed very much! Sending your family a lot of love and support during this difficult time.

My deepest condolences to the Salazar Family. I enjoyed the friendship Kirk and I had as co-workers at UPS. I enjoyed covering his route if&when he ever took time off. He always had a smile and I enjoyed seeing him at the HUB after work with his 1 golf club he practiced with that day. I will miss you Kirk e Kirk. Your Friend Rob Hayes.

Salazar family,

I was lucky enough to be a regular stop on Kirks route for the last 6 years or so. We grew to be friends, and he is missed. My condolences to you all, he spoke of you often, and I know he was so very proud of his kids.

It is impossible to fully describe Kirk's goodness, his kindness. And just as impossible to recount all the great memories. Kirk and Sue opened their home to my sons, Dustin and Ian, often when the boys were young and one of my memories is of Kirk helping me select a cute little cocker spaniel as a surprise for the boys. That dog loved Kirk always, as we all do. The world is dimmed with his passing but let us remember him in light and laughter and love.

So sorry to hear that Kirk had and fought cancer! I worked with him many years at UPS and really missed the Big Cottonwood Canyon drive when his route was created. I enjoyed it too. We would see him having lunch on a side road up the canyon when we were camping or just enjoying a canyon drive. He was a hard worker! Our condolences to Sue and family.

Dear Sue, kids and family; such a difficult time to have to go through! Noting can be said to take away any of the pain, but somehow you make it. We all wish there were comforting words we could say but there just isn't. Please know I am praying for you and be thankful of the times you had with this wonderful man. Heather Burckhard

My maiden name is "Perry". We were neighbors of the Salazars for many years. They were wonderful and caring neighbors. I am saddened to see that Kirk has passed. I often wondered what came of the Salazars. It appears that Kirk lived a great life. Rest In Peace, Kirk.
