Rex Smith Obituary

1950 ~ 2016
Our beloved Rex passed away on July 23, 2016, and is now home with the Lord. His struggle with cancer is over. The Lord gave Rex strength to continue working the past five years, despite his illness, allowing him to accomplish many projects. He was blessed with many talents in the construction trade, as a business owner, master builder, and concrete specialist, and he passed these gifts on to his five sons. He was a faithful man of God, with compassion, love, and kindness. He loved to read and study the Bible, and believed its promises. He told us all to "RYB" (read your Bible). He had great integrity, and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He had an adventurous soul and loved the outdoors.
Rex is survived by his wife, Diane McDonald Smith, to whom he was happily married for 45 years, and by his loving children: Jeremiah (Eugenia) Smith, Sybrena Smith, Joshua (Mindy) Smith, Rebecca (Greg) Miner, Jedediah (Sarah) Smith, Zechariah (Lindsey) Smith, and Micah (Samantha) Smith; eight grandchildren (plus one on the way), one great grandchild, brother Michael Smith, and sister Charlotte Ottosen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis W. and Lois Parnell Smith, brother Max Smith, and sister Jeniel Severe.
Funeral services are 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 29, 2016 at Gospel Grace Church (662 E 1300 S, Salt Lake City). Interment will be in the Murray City cemetery. RYB.

Dear Diane and Family,

We just want you to know how much we loved and enjoyed Rex (and all of you) for the past 20-or-so years we've been friends. We have lots of joyful memories, especially those summers spent in Haines building the warehouse. We are thankful that it was a long process, because we got to spend more time with Rex and the family up there. Fishing, driving around, eating fresh salmon dinners at the warehouse (on that big table that Rex made), going to the Bamboo Room for fish and chips, and too many sweet treats from the "Bakery!" Those times and all others spent with Rex and his family will never be forgotten by the Mackay Clan.

We celebrate Rex and all of his talents and abilities and his work ethic. He was a champion among men, and we admired and respected him greatly. Although our sorrow is deep, we are comforted by Rex's deep faith. It kept him going, and it brought him peace in the recent difficult days. We appreciate the loving care he was given by the family in the home of Greg and Becky. It's a true example of family love and devotion.

We wish you comfort and joyous memories to sustain you.

Vicki, Dave, Walker, Mindy, Bonnie, Adam, Kaicia and Ridge.
