2LT Andrew Jefferson Hunt, United States Army, age 23, died on September 13, 2016, in Ft. Hood, Texas.

Andrew was born on May 29, 1993 in San Antonio, Texas, to Franklin D. Hunt, Jr. and Donna M. Martin. He began his educational journey with kindergarten at St. Paul's Lutheran School in Austin, TX. He then attended St. Andrew's Episcopal School, also in Austin, beginning with first grade. While Andrew attended St. Andrew's High School, he participated in track and field, football, and cross country. He also loved the fine arts and played cello in the strings program. Andrew loved listening to a variety of music genre, reading great literature, playing video games, and watching lots and lots of movies or "films", as he called them. But most of all, Andrew loved heading out to the family ranch where he enjoyed hunting, tending livestock, and observing wildlife. He loved his cowboy boots, cowboy hats, and big belt buckles.

Andrew was baptized at First Presbyterian Church in San Antonio, Texas. He grew in his faith in Christ and was confirmed at St. Luke's on the Lake Episcopal Church, in Austin, TX, where he also served as an acolyte. Later, the family were members of St. Francis Anglican Church and regular attenders at Redeemer Presbyterian Church, also in Austin, TX.

Scouting was a major family activity. Andrew and his brother, Kyle, began scouting in 1st grade as Tiger Cubs in Pack 23. Both went on to become Boy Scouts at Troop 395 and earned the rank of Eagle Scout, following in the footsteps of their father.

Andrew graduated from St. Andrew's Episcopal School in 2011. He then was appointed to the United States Military Academy at West Point where he actively served as a Color Guard member, finishing as the Cadet Color Captain during his senior year. Andrew graduated and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on May 23, 2015 with a B.S. in English. After graduating, 2LT Hunt completed Armor Basic Officer Leadership Course (ABOLC), Army Reconnaissance Course (ARC), Bradley Leader Course (BLC), and Advanced Situational Awareness Training (ASA) at Ft. Benning, GA. Following these courses, 2LT Hunt was assigned to HHT, 6th Squadron, 9th US Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division and served as the Assistant Squadron S3. He earned an Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon.

Andrew is preceded in death by his paternal grandmother Zelma Lenora Hunt. He is survived by his father and mother, Franklin and Donna Hunt; his brother, 1LT Benjamin K. Hunt; his grandfather, Franklin D. Hunt, Sr.; his maternal grandfather, McDonald Martin, Palmyra, NJ; his maternal grandmother, Laura Ann Martin, Philadelphia, PA; his aunts, uncles, many cousins, and a host of friends.

Visitation will be held Friday, September 23, 2016 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P. M., at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home, 6300 W. William Cannon Drive, Austin, Texas 78749. Funeral Service is Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 1:00 P.M., at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 5901 Southwest Parkway, Austin, Texas 78735. Interment to follow Monday, September 26, 2016 at 11:00 A.M., at Mt. Olive Cemetery, 1404 Armstrong Derry Road, Waelder, Texas 78959.
