Cathryn Studak Obituary
September 13, 1952 - January 31, 2025
Cathryn Mary Studak, 72, passed away at her home in San Antonio, Texas on January 31, 2025, following a brief illness. Cathryn was born in Sacramento, California on September 13, 1952, to Joseph and Frances Studak, the eldest of their three children. Cathryn's father served in the Air Force during her early childhood, so the family moved several times before settling in Texas in 1963.
Cathryn attended Reagan High School in Austin, TX. She later graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 1974 with a degree in Nutrition. Cathryn was an excellent seamstress and loved fashion leading her to pursue a different career track. She attended graduate school at Texas Woman's University and in 1977 was awarded a Master of Science with a concentration in clothing and textiles. She worked for several retailers but ultimately decided she wanted to teach at the university level. She returned to Texas Woman's University and was awarded a PhD in Fashion Merchandising in 1993.
Cathryn held faculty positions at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, TX., and Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL. She was delighted to return to Texas in 2010 when she accepted a position as a professor of Fashion Merchandising at University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio where she taught until her retirement in 2024.
Cathryn and her husband, Chris Cody, enjoyed their life in San Antonio taking advantage of River Walk events and exploring all the small towns in central Texas. They especially loved giving a safe home to stray cats they adopted in their neighborhood.
Cathryn was preceded in death by her parents Joseph W. Studak and Frances Brown Studak. She is survived by her devoted husband Christopher Cody; her two younger siblings, Donna Studak Scullin (Patrick) of Atlanta, GA, and Bill Studak (Monique) of Houston, TX; and two nephews: Matthew Scullin (Desiree) and Jack Scullin (Leigh).
A private family service will be held in San Antonio.
