Herbert Schaefer Obituary
Herbert Schaefer, age 63, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, September 14, 2009. Herb was a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. He worked at the Bexar County court house for over 44 years. He began in the court house in 1965, working for Hart McCormick, the District Clerk. He continued as a court clerk in Judge Anees Mann's court. In 1981 he was appointed to the position of District Clerk by the district court judges. In 1981 he also ran for the position of District Clerk. Herb worked in the court of appeals from 1982 to 2007. He continued his services at the court house by working in the probate court as the Probate Consultant for Judge Tom Rickhoff from 2008 to present. Herb enjoyed the outdoors, was an avid hunter and loved animals. Herb was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reuben and Margaret Schaefer. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joan Schaefer; daughter, Taryn Schaefer, step-daughter, Robynne Paugh (John), sister, Shirley Fox, and brothers, James and Richard Schaefer.

We still think of Herb and Joanie. They were great neighbors and Herb was so kind to buy our boat when Scott was no longer able to use it. It was a blessing!

Everyday i still think about you. You would be a grandfather now to a beautiful baby boy named Logan who is now a little over a year old. It makes me sad to think that you are not here in this world to see life events like these.

Mr Schaefer was an important part of our lives, he sold my husband and I our first house when we were only 21 and 23. He was grandpa to my daughters. Mr Schaefer will always be a big part of our family. We love and miss you!!

Herbie, you will be missed by family and friends we will think of you often and remember the wonderful times you shared with each of us. Everyone’s memories will have a common thread- your smile and your laugh.

I was shocked to hear about the death of Herb Schaefer. I have known Herb for over 36 years. He was not only a friend to many but an astute political advisor that knew the inner workings of the Bexar County Courthouse. An era has passed with the death of my friend, Herb Schaefer. May he rest in eternal peace.

Joy and I have known Herbie for 56 years. We started the 1st grade together. We stayed in touch over the years through our high school reunions and politics. Our hearts are broken. We will miss him very much.
