Michael Deloach Obituary

Mike was born May 3, 1946 in San Antonio, and died Jan. 20, 2023 at the age of 76 after a courageous two-year battle with abdominal cancer.

He was the son of Lt. Col. Rex DeLoach and Betty Ann (Stauffer) DeLoach.

Mike attended Mount Sacred Heart Boys School in San Antonio through eighth grade, and graduated from Alamo Heights High School in 1964, where he played varsity basketball. He attended Southwest Texas State University 1964-1968, graduating with a BBA degree. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, and was an Air Force ROTC cadet. Upon graduation, Mike was commissioned an Air Force Second Lieutenant. He married his college sweetheart, Joyce Graeter, in her hometown, Houston TX in June 1968, and they were married for 54 years. Mike was stationed at Griffiss AFB in Rome, NY and then a remote one-year tour at Korat Air Base in Thailand during the Viet Nam War, where he received the Air Force Commendation medal, and was honorably discharged in 1972 with the rank of Captain.

Mike's professional career in San Antonio included Controller positions at Quasar Electronics, Data Terminal Corp., and Caliber and Procare Collision Centers. He was a founding member of the San Pedro Hills Lions Club, and was a member of Northern Hills Methodist Church, where he volunteered for the food bank. He was an avid golfer, neighborhood poker player, and a voracious reader of WW II history. Mike was very much a dog lover, and he and Joyce adopted and gave a loving home to many rescue dogs.

Mike is survived by his loving wife Joyce, his dear daughter Christy DeLoach, sister Rexanne Bell (Neal), sister-in-law Nancy Harrison (Mike), nephews Robert Bell (Allyson), Scott Bell (Andrée), nieces Lisa Flotte (Mark) and Amy Ginder (John), and his current four-legged devoted rescue buddy, Miss Dottie.

A Celebration of Mike's Life service will be held March 15, at 1:00 pm at Northern Hills Methodist Church, followed by a friendly memory sharing get-together at the Roseheart Clubhouse.

Mike requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to San Antonio Pets Alive (SAPA) or SNIPSA pet rescue groups.

Mike will be interred at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Mike was two years ahead of me, so I didn´t know him well, but he did attend a reunion. I do remember thinking how sharp he looked in his uniform. Blessings to all of his family.

I met Mike when he worked at ProCare Collision. We shared many jokes on the golf course. He was a very friendly man.
My sincerest condolences to his family.
