Patricia Henderson
October 16, 1940 - February 15, 2025
Dr. Patricia G. Henderson died peacefully on Saturday, February 15th, in San Antonio, Texas. Recognized as a scholar and trailblazer in the field of counseling, her legacy will extend beyond her lifetime and continue through the works of her students and colleagues.
Pat was born on October 16, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois to Chester G. Gifford and Loretta R. O'Connell. She attended Mount Holyoke College and graduated in 1962 with an AB in English. She received an MA in Guidance from California State University, San Jose in 1967 and an EdD in Educational Leadership from Nova University in 1986.
Pat was proceeded in death by her parents. She is survived by her twin children, Matthew and Laurel Hooper, her four stepchildren, and her husband Carl, who was the love of her life. He was a pillar of support and longstanding adoration of Pat's unique humor and lively banter. For the past 18 years, you could always find Pat and Carl cheering on the San Antonio Spurs, where she befriended everyone she met. Her animated and lively spirit will be greatly missed.

Pat Henderson was and still is a legend in the annals of TCA history. Certain personality traits can set you apart and imbue you with a presence that´s hard to ignore, making you a major force to be reckoned with. These traits, when honed and embraced, can transform you into a person of impact-a force to be reckoned with. It´s not about being aggressive or overpowering; it´s about the kind of inner strength that speaks for itself and a confidence that is quietly unshakable. This is Pat Henderson, the person we knew, respected and loved...She will be missed but not forgotten!

I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Henderson with my late husband, Thomas Mackey, at the dedication of the school named in her honor; he was the principal that opened Henderson Elementary. She was kind and funny. Her legacy will continue to touch many lives. May she rest in peace.

Pat was a lively person with a great sense of humor. I will remember her laughing at all the stupid smart a-- things I said. Glad to have gotten to see her in her last days. Rest in peace step-mom
