Reynaldo Barcelo
January 26, 1939 - February 3, 2023
Reynaldo Barceló died peacefully at home surrounded by his adoring family on February 3, 2023 in San Antonio, Texas.
Policarpo Reynaldo Barceló y Estany was born in Havana, Cuba on January 26, 1939. His parents, Pedro Ignacio Barceló Garcia and Guillermina Estany Palacios, raised him and his younger brother Francisco ("Frank") in a loving, Catholic, tightly-knit family in Guanabacoa, on the outskirts of Havana.
Reynaldo graduated with honors from Los Escolapios, and completed a Bachelor's in Business and Accounting.
In 1962, his family made the painful decision to encourage Reynaldo to flee the communist regime, leave behind his beloved homeland, and start a new life with the hope of achieving the American Dream. Reynaldo committed himself to one day rescuing his parents and brother from Cuba and reunite his family, which he was proud to have facilitated in 1965.
1963, only a year after settling in the United States and working as an accountant, Reynaldo was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He served dutifully in A-5-1, 1st Platoon. Reynaldo was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany and served proudly as SP-4 Quarter Master. On leave on September 5, 1964, Reynaldo met his lifetime love, best friend, and future mother of their three children, Teresita Tello Mier. They married on September 24, 1966.
Reynaldo was a natural wanderlust and an avid world traveler. He was an aficionado of history, genealogy, the arts, classical music, opera (especially the Spanish Zarzuelas), and theatre. He produced a Zarzuela in Los Angeles, and was involved in multiple volunteer charities. He was a gifted singer and enjoyed sharing his gift. He delighted in imparting these passions with his children and grandchildren. A day with "Papa" often included an impromptu trip to a museum, zoo, circus, ballet, musical, exotic restaurant, botanical garden, or any combination of these adventures. Papa told great stories and his playfulness was inherited by all of his descendants.
Reynaldo was profoundly dedicated to his cherished wife, children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter. He relished bringing joy to his family and lavished his family with immeasurable memories full of affection, music and laughter.
He held a Master's Degree in Business Administration, and was a Certified Information Systems Auditor. Reynaldo was also a proud 4th Degree Knight of Columbus; dedicated to his Catholic parishes, Holy Trinity and St. Padre Pio. His primary devotion and adoration of Christ led his entire life. He loved and trusted wholly the intercession of Our Blessed Mother.
Reynaldo is survived by Teresita, his beloved wife of 56 years, as well as his three cherished children and their respective spouses: his son Reynaldo Carlos (and his wife Maria), his daughters Teresita (and her husband Bill Grace) and Iliana and (and her husband Tim Hieger). He is also survived by his treasured grandchildren Alexandra Noel (and her husband Frank James), William Thomas, Reynaldo Manuel, Maria Elisa, Andrew Timothy, Carlos Andres, Helen Nichole, Luke James, Caroline Elizabeth, and Daniel Antonio, as well as his dear great-granddaughter Felicity, and his brother Francisco Barceló.
Reynaldo is preceded in death by his father Pedro and his mother Guillermina.
" long Journey Home. He is now in the merciful arms of His Heavenly Father and Blessed Mother.
