ROGELIO LATIGO, JR. Obituary

Rogelio (Roy) Latigo, Jr., Born September 1, 1932, entered eternal life on February 8, 2022 at the age of 89. Roy is preceded in death by his parents Rogelio and Rosa C. Latigo, daughter Ruth, grandson Ryan, and first wife Amelia. He is survived by the love of his life of 54 years Elida and seven sons; Roy (Dorrie), Gilbert (Jennifer), Eli (Deanne), Albert (Anita), Daniel (Helen), Alfred, Edward and Brother-in-law Wally (Pat). He was blessed with fifteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and one great great great grandson, and many cousins.

Roy proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict and later served in the Army National Guard 36th Division, 141st Infantry. He was a Freemason and a Past Master of Davy Crockett Masonic Lodge 1225 AF&AM, Past Patron of Alamo Heights Chapter 734 Order of the Eastern Star, Past President of the Masters Wardens and Secretaries Association, 39th Masonic District of the Grand Lodge Of Texas, Past Degree Master of the Sons of Hiram (a unit of the Alzafar Shrine), member of Tranquility Lodge 2000, San Antonio Commandery No.7 Knights Templar, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason.

Roy graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1949. He graduated as an adult from Southwest Texas State University with a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Science. He began his civil service career at Kelly AFB in 1956. He served as a Logistic Analyst Management Specialist receiving many prestigious awards throughout his 35 years of service. After retirement in 1987 he continued to work an additional 13 years in the private sector for Sunset Resources, CACI, and Southwest Research Institute.

Roy was a man of many talents and hobbies. He obtained his private pilot license in 1977 and spent many Sunday afternoons in the skies above San Antonio. He studied radio theory as a child and built his first radio at the age of 11. He was an amatuer radio operator for over 50 years holding an Advanced Class License. He enjoyed building and flying radio controlled airplanes as well as carpentry, fishing, and was fluent in German, Italian, and Spanish.

Roy was reared as a Baptist and attended Sunny Slope Mission and Baptist Temple Church in his youth. He was an active member of El Divino United Methodist Church for 54 years.

Roy will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The family is grateful for the care given to Roy by Dr. Schnitzler and his staff during the past 20 years. The family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers at this time of sorrow.

The viewing will be on March 9th, at 10:30 a.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary, 1101 McCullough Ave, San Antonio, Texas 78212. The Procession will depart Porter Loring at 12:30 p.m. for interment at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:15 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital.
