Thomas Drought

Thomas Drought was born in San Antonio, Texas July 5, 1923. He died peacefully on December 8, 2015 at their dearly loved home in the hill country. Tom was the son of Henry Patrick Drought, Jr. and Kathleen Lukin Drought, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Patrick and James Lukin, and his sister Mary Strieber. Tom graduated from Texas Military Institute, attended the University of Texas and received a law degree from St. Mary's University.

He served as a fighter pilot in the U. S. Marine Corps in World War II and the Korean War. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, two Air Medals and the Presidential and Navy Unit Citations. He returned to civilian life and practiced law until shortly before his death. As a fourth generation San Antonio lawyer, he practiced law in his family's law firm which dates back to 1881. In 2001, he was honored by the State Bar of Texas for 50 years of valuable and meritorious service.

Tom served on the Board of Trustees of the San Antonio Museum Association for many years and was president when the old Lone Star Brewery was purchased and development began for the San Antonio Art Museum on Jones Avenue. He also served on the boards of the San Antonio Art Museum, Our lady of Lake University, Sarah Roberts French Home, Morningside Manor, San Antonio River Authority and the Alamo Council of Governments. Tom was a member of the German Club, The Order of the Alamo, Club Giraud, The San Antonio Country Club and The Argyle.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Jane Travis, the daughter of the late Brigadier General Robert F. Travis and his wife Francis; his daughters, Kathleen Danysh and her husband Richard, of San Antonio; Janie Bell and her husband, Philip of Corpus Christi; Virginia Lee King and her husband Chuck of San Antonio; and his son, Thomas Drought, Jr. and his wife Laurie of Lubbock; grandchildren, Travis and Peter Danysh, Nash Bell and his wife Melanie; Virginia, Jerry and Kathleen Bell; Barrett, Thomas and Lukin King; and Michael Don Mills and his wife Ashley; great grandchildren Luke and Grace Bell and Keighton Grace Mills.

The family sincerely thanks Paulino and Eugina Marquez, Janie Montenigro Perez, and Leticia Rodriguez for the love and devotion they gave Tom through his illness.

Pallbearers will be Tom's grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers will be James Drought, Whitley Strieber, David Straus, Stanley Schoenbaum, Jonathan Calvert, B.D. Holt, and Charles Butt.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at St Anthony de Padua, 107 Lorenz Road, San Antonio, Texas, 78209, at 10 AM. Following the service is a reception in the church hall.
