Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Silva Family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Alfredo B. Silva US Army Staff Sergeant.
We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families, friends and others who support our mission.
We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

In Memory of Alfredo ~ (Debra Estep)

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Alfredo, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guest book for the rest of my life, but I promised LE RON A. WILSON (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

To the family os Sgt Silva,
My name is Isaac H. Silva. I had the priveledge to meet Alfredo one night after doing our training in El Paso to go to Iraq. I remember sitting on the couch watching Sunday nighty football, and here comes this guy with the name SILVA on his BDU uniform. I only introduced myself as... "Man... another Silva" And he reckognized that I was also a Silva. Soon we would realize that we only lived less than 20 minutes from each other in the Imperial Valley. We tried to make any connection as to if we were primos of some kind, but our attempts failed. I never did make it over to Iraq, because I too ad lost a loved one to the war in Iraq. My little brother Cpl Erik H Silva as KIA April 3rd of 2003. So for only one night I had met Alfredo, we would never meet again. What a lasting impression i got from someone who could have been my cousin, but will forever be my brother. My sympathy goes out to the Silva family.....

To Mrs. Silva, My son Thaddeus Moore was a member othe the 184th in Baghdad. He still speaks of your husband with high regard. He was not assigned on the mission where your husband died, and he is still regretful that he was not with your husband when he died. Your husband made the ultimate sacrifice, which is partly your sacrifice, too. His sacrifice is so important. This is why we live in freedom. He is not forgotten. He is in the arms of God. May God bless you and your daughter with your beautiful lives as you move forward. In the peace of Christ, sincerely, Elizabeth

Those we love remain with us, for love itself lives on...
And cherished memories never fade, Because a loved one's gone....
Those we love can never be, more than a thought apart....
For as long as there is memory, They'll live on in the heart.

It was seventeen years ago when my wife and I taught at Calexico High School. There was a young man whom we will never forget and of whom we have spoken of often over the years. "Alfie" Silva was a wonderful young man with a heart of gold. We were terribly saddened to hear of his death and would like to pass on our sincere condolences to his family and friends. Please know that he touched the lives of many. His smile and positive attitude will never be forgotten by us. We truly enjoyed watching him in the classroom as well as on the football field and basketball court. He was a great leader of his teams and of his school. God bless him and his family.

Even though we have never met, I wanted to share a poem with you.
You see I lost my only son when he was one month away from his 22nd birthday. That was in 1980. I know the pain and the sorrow that you feel.
I know in time the awful hurting inside of you will heal. I know right now it’s hard to Imagine that life can even go on. I can’t imagine anything worse then losing a child.
I am a Christian and I know that God’s strength saw me and my husband through. There were many days we just didn’t want to go on, but He was always there to help us.
I hope you will not take offence by receiving this. I only mean it to help and
let you know that I care. I will keep you in my prayers.
May God bless you in a very special way, as He took a very special person from this world to be with Him. I thank God every day for men like your son who are willing to fight for our freedom and the freedom of oppressed nations. I know Alfredo has made a difference in every life he has touched. God bless everyone in his family.
Remember, John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should nor perish but have everlasting life.”
At Death of a Child
“I’ll lend you for a little while
A child of mine,” He said.
“For you to love the while he lives
And mourn when he is dead.
It may be six or seven years, or
Twenty two or three,
But will you ’til I call him back,
Take care of him for Me?
He’ll bring his charms to gladden you,
And should his days be brief,
You’ll have his lovely memories
As solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay,
Since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught down there
I want this child to learn.
I’ve looked this wide world over
In my search for teachers true,
And from the throngs that crowd life’s lane,
I have selected you.
Now will you give all your love,
Nor think the labor vain,
Nor hate me when I come to call
To take him back again?”
I fancy that I heard them say,
“Dear Lord, Thy will be done.
For all the joy this child shall bring,
The risk of grief we’ll run;
We’ll shelter him with tenderness,
We’ll love him while we may,
And for the happiness we’ve known
Forever grateful stay.
But should the angels call for him,
Much sooner then we’ve planned,
We’ll brave the bitter grief that comes
And try to understand.”

My husband is also in Baghdad, Iraq with the 184, he served with Alfredo and admired him very much, he is so saddened by this great loss. Our family is sending love and prayers to the Silva family. I was fortunate enough to meet Sgt. Silva last year at the airport when I was picking up my husband for Christmas, shortly before the guys deployed to Iraq. He was so kind and I remember tears in my eyes when I saw Alfredo with his family. He loved his wife and children so much. I hope they can find peace and comfort knowing how much he loved them.
