On July 18, 1957 Carol Lynn Pacotti Lee was born in Fullerton, California. She was the baby girl of Patricia and Jack Pacotti and little sister of Steve Pacotti. I try to think of what joy these two had in the birth of their daughter, that rounded out a rich man's family with one boy and one girl. Carol grew up in a loving Catholic family with a doting older brother during the 60's and 70's. I think of what was transpiring in the world around her. Summers of love, civil rights, Vietnam War, and Watergate. I think of how these events were but a few that shaped her as a young woman. The convictions that were engraved in her heart and soul. To say Carol was a strong women is an understatement. I first met Carol in December of 1984. I was 14 years old and she was not yet 30. I was immediately in awe of this young woman my father was introducing me to. She lived in a small rental house in Escondido with my father, and most importantly her golden retriever, Carbon. I was so impressed she was a California girl. I only knew of what I had heard or seen in media about Californians. I asked her why she didn't have flowers in her hair. She replied, Because I am not in San Francisco. Then I asked her how many movies she had been in? To my surprise she said none. This really shocked me because my child mind thought everyone from California was a movie star. Carol worked at a print shop. She would take me to work with her and spend the day teaching me how to bind books. I was so impressed with her knowledge. Most importantly, she talked to me. She asked me questions and listened to my answers. I was star struck, I was in love. Every visit, there would be a day where Carol would say, Put your walking shoes on and get in the car, we are going on a drive. A few hours later we would pull up to Disneyland and have the most magical day. Many years later, I would find out from Steve, that this was a tradition started by their parents when Carol and he where children. I was truly lucky to have Carol carry that tradition on to me and then my oldest daughter, Alex.Even though I count myself a child of Carol's, I was but her human child. I picture Carol in Heaven surrounded by her many four legged children, Carbon, Conner, Hunter, and Grady to name a few. Her pride and joy left here to miss Carol along with the humans are Bob and Bella. Bob and Bella were Carols comfort day and night, and her every decision was made around what was best for them. I have never met a more dedicated person to their animals than she. I had never heard of having a birthday party for a dog until I met her. Carol took such pride in her work with Hidden Valley Obedience Club. Carol loved all of her four legged children and cared for them as I do my human children.Carol was always the listener when I needed one. The voice of reason when I had none. Carol became the mother I needed after my real mother passed. Carol was a truly independent woman. Carol never made a promise she couldn't keep. Carol definitely had opinions. They may not have been the same as mine, but my love for Carol was greater than any oppositions. There are so many more wonderful things to be said about Carol. She was a friend during dark times. She was a constant in my life. Carol passed too soon on Saturday morning June 23rd.She will be truly and deeply missed, as she will always be truly and deeply loved.
