Don Nicholson Obituary

NICHOLSON, DON L. April 8, 1909 to May 10, 2008 Don L. Nicholson died on Saturday, May 10th, at the age of 99, after a short illness, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada in 1909 to Leslie and Maude Nicholson. His family left Ottawa to pioneer in Saskatchewan and settled on the prairie where his father and grandparents built and operated a general store. Don went to work in the Bank of Toronto, where he worked for 32 years. At his posting in Rose-town, Saskatchewan, he met the "steno," Donalda MacArthur, and they married on May 12, 1940. They had one daughter, and went on to live in Calgary, Alberta, northern Manitoba and finally Winnipeg, Manitoba until they relocated to northern Arizona. They then lived in Phoenix, Arizona, until his beloved Donalda passed away, when he came to San Diego to live with his daughter and her family. He is survived by his daughter Lesley Frazier, son-in-law Joseph Frazier, granddaughter Sara Dietler (John) of Pasadena, CA, grandson James Frazier (Kelsey) of Santee, CA, and great-grandchildren Rylan and Kylee, who were the light of his life. He is also survived by his brother, Harvey Nicholson of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, sister-in-law Wilma Nicholson of Moose Jaw and nieces and nephews in Canada. His life was dedicated to his family and even in his last years he devoted himself to taking care of everyone else in his world. He was a source of inspiration not only because of his longevity but because of his good humor and positive attitude. He will be sorely missed, not only by his family, but by everyone whose life he touched. A celebration of his life will be held at the Frazier home on May 31, 2008. Any donations in his memory should be sent to Meals-on-Wheels, Greater San Diego, Inc., 2254 San Diego Ave., Ste. 200, San Diego, CA 92110; http://www.meals-on-wheels. org/donate.

Although it was a short time, it was a fun time. I so enjoyed our times together. Especially our visits at the coffee and donut shop talking of family. Your wisdom and wit will certainly be missed. I wish we were there on the 31st.
