Well here I am still on A-Dock at Oceanside Harbor where I first met Ed in 2001, 19 years ago. Not many of us still around on A-Dock who knew Ed but a few. Fond memories and respect for a great man who impressed me greatly. I bought our original boat from Ed's best friend, Mike Cafarchia, who is still with us. What a close friendship they had together. Ed's life and military service represents what made this Country great. Something to not forget in these troubled times. Thank you Ed!

Ed Harloff was a great man and great American having been wounded in action at Iwo Jima . My friend Ed and his longtime and wonderful lady Barbara were one of the most loving couples I have ever known. Ed was such a good business man and I was fortunate to been able to learn much from him. I miss he and Barbara very much.

im sorry Im just saying goodbye to one of Americas greatest heroes both on the battlefield protecting our liberties and at home and in business showing people that being a hero doesnt stop on the battlefield.
I think its fitting to remind myself and others who cared soo deeply for the Harloff family that today in 2020 we are faced with a true life and death situation to keep our country free that Ed fought so hard to protect. I spoke to the White House several times recently and mentioned Ed Harloff and his family always going to Arlington Cemetery with our Nations Presidents.
Im proud to say in my life the best company and people I worked with and knew as friends and made me feel like family was the Harloffs. Someone mentioned the hallway with all of the awards. I was proud every day to walk through that hallway and couldnt not stop to look every time to see Ed standing with our past Presidents and by my office was Eds flag from Iwo Jima and his pistol he used to protect our country from enemies. At 1st glance one is overwhelmed but knowing Ed he was a polite, generous, happy hard working man whom will be missed by not only his family but elan entire community. I remember the Olympic Torch that Ed Harloff carried in San Diego... and Eds great strength and desire to make everyone see life as he did he must have done well because I have never worked with such amazing people who also wrote wonderful things about Ed... Ted Wilson whom I worked with also carried the Olympic torch as well. Birds of a feather , they flick together.. those around the family couldnt help but be truly happy they had been around such a wonderful man, family and business. Please accept my deepest condolences to everyone in the family. I miss everyone. I lost my father last year so ive reflected on all reflect on our accomplishments and we can always try harder Ed and the Harloffs brought out the best In people around them. Words cant truly express my sadness except to say thank you for letting me work at your business and bringing into what felt like my family. Ive missed Ed and the Harloffs for the past 10 years since I moved.
Im this time of great madness in our country... and how do we save America... the 1st thing I thought of was Ed Harloff. This picture still hangs on my wall with great pride.

My dad, Bud Stuart, bought all his Chevrolets from Ed Harloff beginning with a 1950 Chevrolet 150 2 dr Sedan. Mr Harloff was always so nice to me when I was little. I last saw him at Arlene Odney's funeral and he hadn't changed a bit, still the same friendly guy.

Dear Barbara and Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. My mother, Pauline (Dumais) Stergios always spoke highly of Ed, all he accomplished, all he did to help and encourage others, generously giving to all. Ed passed away less than a month after Pauline.....I have no doubt she was part of those that met and welcomed him into Heaven. I look forward to the day we are reunited with our loved ones. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Most Sincerely,
Paula (Stergios) Whisenant

Dear Barbara and family....We had the priviledge and honor to get to know Ed through the car business and words cant express the respect and admiration we had for him not only as a car dealer and business man but more importantly as a friend and mentor...When I was down mentally I would call Ed and would get picked back up by his always positive attitude and wonderful out look on life. What a great legecy he has left for his children and grandchildren and he blessed everyone of us who had the opportunity to know him. We will all miss him but know he is up in heaven smiling down on us and waiting on us to join him there.

Dear Barbara and family: I am Carol Oveson, wife of Ed's cousin James Oveson from Big Lake, MN. I am so sorry for your loss. I had never met Ed, but from all the wonderfully funny stories that the Oveson cousins shared and the special memories they had, I somehow feel I personally knew Ed. Please accept deepest sympathy from me and my family. Jim went to be with the Lord on July 30, of this year and I believe now these "two cousins" are still sharing and laughing especially with Cora and Ella. May God give you and your family strength and peace in the days ahead.
Sincerely,
Carol

My father once said that if you could hold up your hand with 5 fingers extended and pose the question,"how many people in your life have had such a profound impact that they have literally changed your life." He said that if you had 1 finger left standing that you should consider yourself a blessed man. Well , I have 3 fingers left standing and one of them is Ed Harloff.I CHERISH my sunday Morning elbow tours I used to get from Ed as he instilled in me his values and work ethhic. He was a man of virtue and honor with great vision.Ed will be sorely missed, but I know I will always be able to call on the things he taught me.He was the ultimate life coach. I intend to make sure that I pass on his passion for life. Thank you Ed, I am truley blessed to have been a part of your life. You are a true real life hero to the people you touched as well as the country you served. I find it fitting that I find myself writing this as I make my way back to northern Minnesota where you and I grew up. Thanks Ed,
I love you!
thank you Barbara, Anne & John for everything throughout the years.
GOD BLESS.

Barbara, Barb, Annie and John, we're sorry for your loss and our thoughts and prayers are with you. Uncle Ed was a lot of great things to many people and he will be missed. He still gets credit for my first job - washing cars for a surfboard and Diedri's first car.

Ed was truly a "man of all seasons." When Ken and I moved to Encinitas in 1971, Ed was the first person we met and that meeting turned into a 40 year friendship with him and his dearly loved wife, Barbara. He will be sorely missed by the community he served so well and all who knew him.

I had the honor of working for Ed in the
late '80s, and I was impressed by the way
he made the role of dealer principal seem
so easy. 100% gentleman to all who met him, and a fine and respected member of the business community. Please accept my most heartfelt condolences, and comfort that Ed is now in the hands of the Lord.

A man of outstanding character, courage and confidence is how I would describe Mr. Ed Harloff, the man I worked with for over 23 years. The priviilege was all mine. So many life lessons I learned, experiences and opportunities presented to me from a mentor, a man that was more like a Father to me. I will always be grateful for the faith Mr. Harloff had in me as a young go-getter Parts Driver to eventually encouraging me to take the position as Parts Manager. All was not work, however, the boating trips to Catalina on the Barbara Ann, the holiday buffets, and 'elbow tours' are among my favorite memories. RIP Mr. Harloff. God Bless, Fernando.

Ed was truly a wonderful man in all regards. His hard working, love of Country generation is something very special.
In a conversation years ago with him concerning the death of my father, he commented in a very serious tone that he only hoped that he would pass away first because he couldn't live without his wife, Barbara. I thought that he might want me to share that thought with others.
We'll miss you Ed.

"I tell you the truth," Jesus said to them, "no one who has left home or wife or brothers or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God will fail to receive many times as much in this age and, in the age to come, eternal life" (Luke 18:29 - 30)
Although I did not have the pleasure of knowing Ed, I did know him through stories my son, Reggie, told me and through the love he and his family have shown Reggie. May he rest in iternal peace.

Our condolences to Barbara and the Harloff family. Ed and Barbara were among our very first friends when we moved to Solana Beach in 1960. They too were new to the area. We later were neighbors in Leucadia. What fun we transplanted young families had that first year at patio potlucks and afternoons on the beach. Ed was a visionary who has had a great impact on local business history over the last half century. He was the first to move his Harloff Chevrolet from downtown Encinitas to the newly expanded Encinitas Boulevard, before the rest of us figured out that that was the place to be. His unflagging enterprise and spirit will always be with us.

Ed Harloff was a Fine man. My father Jack worked for him and actually passed away while working. One of the kindest gestures was when Ed openened his church and hosted a memorial service for my father. I am sure he will be missed just like my father is.

I had the privilege of knowing and working with Ed Harloff both as a factory rep. and later an employee. Ed always impressed me with his positive outlook. At the end of most conversations, Ed would say "the best is yet to come" and he meant it. I have always thought Ed was one of the classiest guys I ever met and he will be missed by many. My deepest condolences to the entire Harloff family.
