Hi Harry,
Needed some advice/perspective the other day and thought, "Gee, Harry would have an ear & idea for this." It was a pleasant thought, as I walked by Atherton & took a seat on the bench to think about it. Isn't it special how many different people take a load off, or have a think, on those benches?!

Sweetie, its been 2 months since you went to live with God. I am trying very hard to take good care of mom. She misses you and asks about you every day. She is doing so well at the Glenner Center, everyone is so loving there. I have to cook for us now, no more splendid meatloaf to come home to... you spoiled me! Milo misses his daily daddy scratch ! I met Harry in 1957 when he was 10 years old. I was in the Navy and his family adopted me as one of their own. Therefore Harry became a "Little brother" to me.
We would go to the beach and he would sleep on a blanket in the sand most of the time. We would go to the bowling alley (Clairmont Bowl)across the street and I'd help him with his game. At Thanksgiving and Christmas he would be in the kitchen helping dad with the cooking. I guess this is where he learnt his cooking skills, like father, like son.
I regret that I wasn't around for his years in scouting, because I also was in scouting and from what I've been reading we could of had a lot of fun togrther.
I will miss you "Little brother", see you soon and give my love to dad.

Harry, I sure am having difficulty not being able to visit with you. I'm talking to your beautiful wife often and that seems to help. Heaven is a better place because you and dad are there, but I miss you more than words could ever express. Your sister, Valerie

What can be said of Harry Beagle that is not already known by anyone who knew him? He was as open, friendly, and as kind a Scouter as I have ever met. No one ever dealt with Harry that their life was not changed. You were immediately his Scouting friend and more likely he would pull you into a Scout training position. But, you were always better for having been touched by such a ONE as Harry. We love you Harry.

To a cook named Harry Beagle who's food should have been on the Emeril Lagase show for best ingredients used and appearance. I have learned a Great deal from you, Harry and sure do miss that Chicken breast stuffed with ricotta cheeses and wrapped in turkey bacon for extra flavor. I am still working on making it taste just right. It's missing something???/
Send me a sign of the missing ingredient.
Your always with "us" in one way or another shape or form. You definitely will be missed by a lot of people. Thinking of you, always.

Harry,
You will be long in my memory because of your "stuff" in my backyard that my son Eric ofter came home with after visiting you. Eric enjoyed his time with you cooking at scout events and looked forward to seeing your "stuff". You will be remembered and missed. May the Great Eagle keep you under his wing.

Harry, Thanks for all our talks, scout fellowship and countless road trips. I will alway remember your truck with the heater cranked up, windows rolled down, listening to talk radio when the Padres were not playing!
You and Sue have been my best friends. You welcomed Linda and me as members of your family and was always there for me! What more can I say- but that you will be missed. But I know your spirit will always be close by. OH, almost forgot- your also the only driver able to drive a truck without a transmission!
Love you, hope your getting to drop your line up there in the Big Pond. God Bless, I know we will meet again.

One of my favorite non-scouting memories, (those are too numerous to mention - basics, roundtables, then WWX being the best!) is the Beagle answering machine. (Yes, this goes way back) I can just see and hear Harry recording, "This is not the real me, but I know it's the real you, and if the real you wants to talk to the real me, leave the real me a message so the real me can call the real you back". You are missed.

Harry,
You have always been so good and kind to me during my years at Boy Scouts. I will always remember your smile and I can still hear your jolly voice. Whenever I go to lunch with you and the rest of former and current Boy Scout staff, I would tell my friends at Girl Scouts that I am going out with my Boy Scout family. I still can't believe that physically you are no longer with us, but I know you will always be with us in our hearts and spirit! May God bless you and watch over you 'til we meet again.

Dear Sue and Family,
Harry always was so cheerful and caring. I know how much you all meant to him. I remember when he explained how to make out a receipt and how Linda Sue had done a huge image as his teaching tool. Harry was so proud of his daughter and he was in giving the lesson. He took his work seriously. He did a great job as he did with everything he put his mind and heart to. I learned a lot from him because of his loving nature and interest in others. My sincere condolences and best wishes. My prayers are with you.

As we walk through life sometimes we are touched by those who are sent by god to advise, mentor and teach us. Harry was truly one of those. He was an angel in scouters clothing. I know that I am blessed for having known him. There will be a great void in our beloved scouting community. Harry I will miss you, I will see you someday at the great pow wow. God bless you.

Dearest Sue and family,
Jim and I wish to send our sincerest condolences. Harry made it possible for a single mom to enjoy time with her son by teaching me how to think and act as a 9 year old boy. We will miss him as I'm sure the hundreds of people Harry touched will as well.

I can't believe that Harry is gone, he was one of the greatest influences of my life when I was a kid. I was talking to my mom about when we first met him, and it was of course at a pack meeting. We were sure that we would hate it and were ready to never come back. (As I recall we drug our feet going out the door to get there.) After just a few minutes though we were having such a good time we wanted to join cubscouts with our brother too! Harry always made pack meetings, or outings feel fun even for those of us who weren't boys. As a matter of fact my youngest sister thought she was a cubscout for a long time. Thanks Harry.
Love,

As a Scouter from the Heartland District who spent many an hour with Harry at Roundtables, trainings, Pow Wow's, and other scouting events around San Diego, I can say without any hesitation that Harry was one of my biggest mentors and inspirations on to how to be a leader and fellow scouter in the BSA program. I will never forget Harry's memorable talent in the "How to fold a Bandana" skit, when Harry proceeded to fold a "Banana". It brought tears to everyone's eyes from the laughter. What a performer he was. Now our tears are for the passing of a great friend and scouter who we will all miss dearly but remember foundly. To Sue and the rest of Harry's extended family, our prayers and thoughts are with all of you for now and into the future.

Years ago, as a new cubmaster, I went to Scout HQ to find out about pinewood derbies. There I met a large man, who patiently answered my questions and gave me the inside story; you know, graphite, weights, aerodynamics. And in doing so not only did he share the excitement of pinewood derby cars, but shared the fun of cub scouting. His parting words were “Make sure the boys have fun.”
I took that enthusiasm and advice back to my pack and, thanks to Harry Beagle, I became a better scouter. From that day to this, I have always liked, admired, trusted, respected and thanked Harry. And I always will, even after I join him someday at the big Pinewood Derby in the sky.

Harry was once a former neighbor of ours in Clairemont back in the early '70s (Huron Ave). These 3+ pages of personal entries are true a testament to the large circle of friends that Harry developed during his 61 years of life. That's an accomplishment that not many people have earned or could achieve. Harry's magnetism and friendly demeanor that made it so easy for him to attract friends. I was saddened to learn of his passing after my dad called last night with the news. An example of his seemingly endless supply of time, patience and generocity was when he helped my dad completely rebuild the engine in my dad's '66 Ford Econoline. They tirelessly at night after dinner during the work week, balancing family time in between. It's gestures like this that make us all appreciate the true value of friends and neighbors. Harry's commitment to leadership in Boy Scouts also speaks volumes of his personal integrity and devotion to mentoring young lives to become selfless human beings with a strong moral foundation and self confidence. It's been over 30 years since I last saw Harry, but his memory will forever live on with those of us whose lives were positively impacted by knowing him. My condolences to his wife and children, and extended family and his friends.

I said wow Harry, you've been with Sue since she was just a girl! He looked at me and said she still is to me. I'm such a softey that made me cry. Sue & family, I am so sorry. Harry was one of the greatest men I've ever know and the world was a much better place with him in it. Love you Sue.

Back to Gilwell .... my loving friend and mentor. Harry wasn't much for a handshake, that bear hug was so much better. He was the ultimate Cubmaster with a heart that was full of smiles and sincere care for all those around him. I will miss the campfire stories and the many times we trained together. My friend my buddy, the scouter who gave us the example to be and follow. My love to the family and his compaion and wife Sue.

Harry and Sue were my introduction to Scouting 24 years ago, and I was drawn to it because of them. Harry always had a kind word to say and something to chuckle about. He's the only man I know who wore a "four-four" in public. You had to love him ... and I did. Harry -- Thank you for being you!
