Joan Sullivan Obituary

Sullivan, Joan Beverly EL CAJON -- Joan Beverly Sullivan was born July 18, 1933 in Detroit, MI, to Edwin and Angela Brede. She went home to the Lord on October 15, 2013. She had two sisters, Mary and Lois, and one brother, John. She attended Redford High School in Detroit and Michigan Normal College, where she received her BA. She began teaching school, and later married Jack H. Sullivan. They eventually settled in El Cajon, CA. During their 57 year marriage, 12 children were born, as well as 20 grandchildren and 4 great-grand- children. Joan was smart, funny, full of wisdom and humor, and passionate about the things she believed in, most importantly, her faith in God, which she passed down to her family. Joan was a great advocate for the unborn and an accomplished writer, excelling in children's stories. She was a substitute teacher in the East County school districts as well as a religious education teacher. Joan was highly involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren, and always there to lend a hand or offer advice or support. She loved to bring the family together for holidays and other special occasions and was truly the super-glue that held the family together. Eternal rest grant to her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her.

Joan was a good friend that you could always call on to help sort out problems. We used to get together when the kids were little for block rosary with other Mom's. Some of the children prayed while the younger ones played. Then it was coffee and donut time. When they grew up and were busy with this and that Joan and I would get on the phone to sort out problems and pray for each other and all out kids. I was able to visit with her at Stanford Ct. by pushing my Mom into Joan's room in her wheelchair. Now Mom has gone to join Joan on the other side. I miss them both. Our prayers for the family will not stop-

I wish to extend my deepest sympathy upon learning of the passing of Mrs. Joan Beverly Sullivan. The early 1960's, when I was teaching in Santee, I was an invited guest to the Sullivan home. Their son, Edward, was a student of mine, and he and his family opened their arms and hearts to me. Joan also substituted at another school were I had taught within the district. I remember the Sullivan Family with fond memories.

Jack and Family;
I am so sorry to hear about Joan passing away. Did you already have a service. The phone # I have is wrong so I can't call you. Would like to hear from some of the family. Lovingly,
