Jouliette Chokeir Obituary

Jouliette Elias Chokeir June 30, 1969 - March 2, 2017 San Diego Jouliette Elias Chokeir, 47, of San Diego, died peacefully in her parents' home surrounded by her family on March 2, 2017 after living her life to the fullest while bravely facing breast cancer for the last 13 years. Jouliette was born on June 30, 1969 to Palestinian immigrants Elias and Oghenie Chokeir in Doha, Qatar. A very studious child, she attended the public school for girls in Doha and learned to speak English at the British Council. Jouliette enjoyed a fun childhood filled with family, friends and love, and particularly enjoyed big parties around the holidays and extended family vacations in London, Greece and Cyprus. Her younger brothers Nahme, Fouad and Samer will remember her as the best babysitter ever for teaching them to use powdered milk as snow for skiing in the kitchen when mom wasn't home. The family immigrated to the United States in 1986 so Jouliette could attend college at San Diego State University. There she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology, a subject that became her passion, fueling a 20+ year career as a clinical microbiologist at Rady Children's Hospital. Her son Jacob, born in 1996 with ex-husband James King, was the joy of Jouliette's life. Jacob gave her the strength she needed to fight her cancer, and was the reason she lived her life as long as she did, against all odds. While she enjoyed puzzles and coloring books as hobbies, more than anything else, Jouliette loved spending time with family and friends, cooking and hosting happy gatherings. She was the special auntie who showered her nieces and nephews with gifts and "smotherings" of hugs and kisses.Jouliette is survived by her son, Jacob King; her parents, Elias and Oghenie Chokeir; brother Nahme Chokeir, his wife Heidi and their son Elias; brother Fouad Chokeir, his wife Fairouz and their sons Ryan and Danny; and brother Samer Chokeir, his wife Adriana and their children Juliet and Noah. The Viewing will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15, in the chapel at El Camino Memorial Park, with a Rosary at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 16, at Santa Sophia Catholic Church in Spring Valley with a graveside service immediately following at El Camino Memorial Park. After Jouliette is laid in her final resting place, the family will receive guests over lunch in the hall at Santa Sophia.

Today visited Jouliette with wife and kids. As anyone can imagine or experienced the range of emotions I am left with a little relief knowing she is no longer in pain because her battle was unimaginably difficult. She was an excellent role model to my kids on how to be caring, loving and supportive. It was nice remembering the times Adriana and I visited her or one of the many different movie nights Jouliette had with the kids watching Pink Panther. She is missed and very grateful for the time we had with her.
