MICHAEL MATTHEWS Obituary

MATTHEWS, MICHAEL Michael Matthews went to eternal rest on September 24, 2010. He was born in Pennsylvania on June 1, 1927, one of ten children to Anna and Anthony Matthews. He is survived by his daughter Sandra L. Long, son-in- law Jack Long, sister Helen Ely and many nieces and nephews. Michael was a longtime resident of San Diego, moving here in 1951. He worked for Convair/ General Dynamics and "went out the gate in 88." He was also a country/western singer, playing in various clubs in and around the San Diego area. Michael is predeceased by his wife Louise E. Matthews, his son Michael Matthews II and his grandson Joseph D. Allen. Michael was well loved and will be greatly missed. Services will be at El Camino Mortuary on October 2, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. with visitation on October 1, 2010, from 4 to 8:00 p.m. Interment will follow services.

I worked with Mike at convair on the Tomahawk program, He was always joking around and making fun of the people in management, He helped make work a little more fun, May God bless your family now and forever

Dear Sandy & Family We are so sorrory to he of uncle mikes passing.We will always cherish the times he visited us in pennsylvania and the time we visited him and aunt louise with our children in 1988.We have many photos and vcr tapes of him playing and singing. I am so sorry to read of "Mike's" death, please know that you, his family, are in my prayers. He is where he wanted so much to be, with Louise, and while it is hard to not have him with you, he is finally at peace. I had the pleasure of knowing him from Bingo at St. Mary Magdalene and will surely miss him there. Each time I ask, " how are you today, Mike?", he would answer, " I'm still above ground!".
We will miss you Mike, God bless!
