Sylvia Karzen Obituary

KARZEN SYLVIA LEBOVITZ April 17, 1921 to Dec. 4, 2003 Sylvia Lebovitz Karzen passed away at the age of 82. She died in her sleep, the way she wanted, in the home of daughter Hennie and surrounded by family and friends. She had fought cancer for over 25 years, but when it came time to stop fighting Sylvia accepted it with her characteristic grace and wisdom. Sylvia lived with passion for knowledge and Judaism, righteousness and social justice, kindness and compassion. She touched the lives of many, and was loved by her family, friends and community. Sylvia is survived by siblings Evelyn and Alvan, children Warren (Jan), Hennie (Larry) and Neil (Regina), and grandchildren Max and Annie and many good friends. Services were held at Home of Peace cemetery. Donations may be made to the Simon Wiesenthal Center or Sharp Hospice. Please sign the guest book at obituaries.uniontrib.com

As a native of San Diego, I was privileged to be a patient of your father's...in the 1950s. As an adult, and a member of the JFS board, I knew your mother as the most warm and delightful person. She was always in my mind despite having not seen her for a long time. I hope that you find comfort in knowing many people that you do not know share your sadness and will always have the most lovely memories of a very special lady.
