Brian Ader Obituary

Brian Michael Ader

February 23, 1948 - March 15, 2025

Nipomo, California - Brian Michael Ader, 77, passed away at home on March 15, 2025 with friends and family around him, after a battle with lung cancer.

Brian was born February 23, 1948 in Tacoma, Washington to Jeanne Dechaux and Arnold Ader. He served four years active duty in the Coast Guard before graduating from the California Highway Patrol Academy in 1971. He worked in Baldwin Park, Covina, Lake Arrowhead and San Bernardino before moving up to San Luis Obispo, where he spent the bulk of his career.

It was at SLO County jail where Brian met Karen Plummer, a booking officer. They married in 1994 and enjoyed 20 happy years together, traveling in their RV and active in Masonic activities before her passing. Brian was an active member of King David's Lodge, and a past Worthy Patron of Corona chapter, Order of Eastern Star.

After retiring from the CHP, he kept busy with part-time jobs, including parking enforcement in Pismo Beach, driving a SCAT bus, and building manager of King David's Lodge. Brian was also a talented DIY-er, handling all his own home renovations.

He enjoyed interacting with people and always shared good stories and laughs.

He is preceded in death by his wife Karen Ader, parents and grandparents, and five good dachshunds. He is survived by his brother Steve Ader of Tacoma, Washington; step-daughter Kim Cole of Fort Worth, Texas; step-son William Plummer and wife Chelli of Alicante, Spain; grandkids Clinton, Julia, Thomas, Veronica and Joseph, niece Jessica and nephew Cameron. Brian was also happy to have good friends and neighbors Maria Thomas, Jennifer Ramsey, and Vicky Skinner.

Memorial services will be at King David's Lodge at 859 Marsh St. SLO on Saturday, April 12, 2:00 p.m. A reception will follow, and the family encourages the sharing of stories.

Our condolences to members of Ader extended family. Brian and I were classmates at the CHP Academy (CTC VII-73) and co-workers at Baldwin Park Area Office. Kept in touch until his move from Pismo Beach to Nipomo. Rest in Peace, dear friend.

I met Brian in 1971 while he and my ex-husband were serving in the Coast Guard. We enjoyed many nights playing cards as a foursome. More often than not, Brian and I would start laughing uncontrollably and spoil the card game. We kept in touch over the years and he was always upbeat and positive. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Brian was a good man and a blessing to know, Karen also. We were in our Eastern Star chapter in San Luis Obispo together. Many years of service, friendship and good works. My condolences to his family and friends.

So sorry to hear this. I did not know Brian but our group Daughters of the American Revolution uses the lodge for our monthly meetings. We would see him around the lodge. May he enjoy his life everlasting in Heaven..
