Gerald Wyatt Obituary

Gerald Wyatt, 57, of Templeton, went home to be with the Lord after a long battle with cancer Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010, at home, surrounded by his wife and children. Gerald was born in May 1953 in Roseville, Calif., to Albert and Merrilee Wyatt. He grew up in Orangevale, Calif., and graduated from Bella Vista High School in 1971. During his high school years, he played on the varsity baseball team as catcher and was instrumental in winning several state championships. He later went on to coach the Bella Vista varsity baseball team. In the 1970s and 80s, Gerald owned his own cabinet shop. His passions were his family, wood working, playing his guitar, reading scripture and baseball. He was a true San Francisco Giant Fan. He later moved to Cave Junction, Ore., where he met and married Debbie Mason. In 1988, Gerald started working in Prison Industries for the Department of Corrections at New Folsom State Prison, Pelican State Prison and the California Men''s Colony (CMC). He retired in December 2007 due to his illness. Gerald is survived by his parents; wife of 22 years, Debbie; four children Gwinne Porter, Daniel, James and Jay Wyatt; and eight grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10, 2010, at Templeton Community Park.

Debbie and Family,
We are truely sorry to hear about Gerald. He was such a nice and gentle man. The kids and I are going to miss seeing him walk Scooter to the mailbox and back. The kids would always stop Gerald and quiz him about Scooter and whatever else was on their minds at the time. Gerald would always stop to talk and was always very patient with the quizzes. We will also miss all the tinkering around he did in the garage. He was always making something and very talented at what he made. Gerald was such a fighter with his cancer. When we were told this past November that he would be lucky to make it through Christmas time we were expecting the worst. Here it is September and he just now passed. That tells you how much he fought and how much he had a zest for life. Debbie he was right, he did have a win/win with his illness. He could either win by living with you and Jay or he could pass away and be with God in heaven. Either way was a win to him. We will miss him very much but know that he is no longer ill in heaven with God. How can we be sad about that? We love you guys.

My prayers and condolences to the Wyatt family, it is so hard to lose that love one, but when they are taken from us with alot more lives to touch it makes one wonder. Gerald came from great stock that's why he was so well loved, to say he'll be missed is an understatement, but nothing like the loss you will come to realize Debbie. May the strength that Gerald has given you help you at this time, to all the Wyatt family God be with you! Carol Dawson Neely

Debbie. I'm very sorry for your loss and for all you've gone through. Gerald was a great guy, one of the toughest guys I've ever known. I really enjoyed playing fast pitch with him and am grateful for his friendship. He will be truly missed but we know he is at peace finally and no longer suffering. My thoughts and prayers are now with you and your family.

My prayers to the Wyatt family. I first met Gerald in little league and spent many years from elementary school through high school running around with him. Everyone always liked Gerald, even our parents who would always worry about him going out with us not knowing that he was the toughest one in the bunch. He had a great sense of humor, quick wit, intelligence and a smile that made everyone feel at ease. Gerald is the only person I ever met who would order a taco without cheese. I still have an old Rolling Stone album he once gave me when he thought my music taste needed adjustment. He was fearless. Rest in peace old friend.

Mrs. Wyatt our hearts, souls and prayers goes to you, your family, your children, grandchildren and your family my husband and I are so sorry for your loss. I do not know you personally, but I knew Gerald only from high school and the kindness he held. I had no idea you lived there in Templeton, I wished we had known, Gerald was always so nice, he was the kindest person you could be around ever. We were stationed in Paso Robles when we returned from Germany in 2001 after my husband retired, I never kept in contact with Bella Vista. Our prayers and thoughts are with you and the family, Gerald was an extremly gracious man. May he rest in peace and may peace be with you and the family. The toughest competitor I've ever played with or against. I always wanted him on my team because 'then' I knew we had a chance, no matter the odds. A 'TRUE' friend. Tommy T.(Placerville, Ca.)

Gerald was a man's man. To me he represented John Wayne, Charles Bronson and Clint Eastwood. Here is a quote to sum his life as a person. " Courage is being scared but saddling up anyway" That was the friend I grew up with and the man he was, he influenced my character more than any one. Rest in peace. Ron Barney
