Joan Vogt Obituary

Joan Vogt "Thou art thy mother's glass, and she in thee calls back the lovely April of her prime." Joan Margaret Rogers came to this earth in the year 1928 in Buffalo, New York, and shuffled off her mortal coil on May 5, 2015. Daughter of Phyllis and James Rogers and sister to her beloved brother Ronald, at the young age of 19, she married the man who she would share her life with, Jacques Arthur Vogt. They went on to have a family of five: Lani, Jodi, Veronica, Jacqueline and Jamie, and later Joan became grandmother to seven and great-grandmother to four. She was an epic homemaker and housewife, and with her diligence and economy gave her children an upbringing that can only be described as magical. She went out of her way to make people feel welcome, and they warmed themselves in her hospitality. Joan had a fairly wicked sense of humor, painted, gardened, and generally took a shine to life. In the last few years of her life, after Jacques died, she was lovingly taken care of by eldest daughter Lani and niece Maggie, who gave everything to make her final years comfortable. Please share a remembrance of Joan here. Or go tell your mother you love her. Joan would like that. Sign her guestbook at sanluisobispo.com/obituaries

Never got to visit for martini-time, but it sure was lovely to chat with you when you'd call the Taipei office and Jamie was out. Evenings I often go to the garden and look up to the sky; there are two stars I always look for. One is my dad and the other is my mam, Gus and May. They shine a little brighter than the others. I reckon there must be two stars for Joan and Jacques looking down on their loved ones.

Joannie, you were a great mother, wife and homemaker, who made everyone who entered your home feel like family. Your warmth and beautiful sense of humor always pervaded the air. But you were also a very, very good friend that would always be at the ready to help. May you rest in peace knowing that you gave your best to everyone around you and inspired us all. Vic

Joan - my Mom - you always were "younger than springtime" and the exemplar of industry and enterprise. We lived a charmed life because we were hanging onto your shirt-tails. Once I said to you that you worked so hard for others, and you replied, "Whatever I do, I do for myself...". You accomplished extraodinarily much while providing for and taking care of so many...

Hi Grandma, boy we had a lot of laughs, you are an amazing woman. So many fun memories with you. Thank you for your time, and your home made bread. Your dance moves, and your laugh. All the trips and the times we just hung out. You taught me a lot, I hope one day I can be like you. I love you Nona. Xoxo
