My relationship with Bruce was professional. I am an attorney and Bruce was a real estate appraiser. On many occasions he was my expert witness providing the Court with insight in the value of real estate. The first court trial I worked with Bruce was about 20 years ago, the most recent trial was last year. Bruce was respected in the legal community. We will miss you.

I had breakfast with Bruce every week for two years. It was a very pivotal time of my life and who I am today still reflects Bruce in many aspects. I am most sad to be so far away and unable to be with all of you who knew him as well.

I travelled 5000 miles to surf with Bruce, such was the magnetism of this man. I am pleased that I managed to spend a week in Soquel last summer, when we surfed nearly every day. It wasn't a good week for swell, but we made the most it, a week that is now even more poignant. He was a successful business and compassionate family man, who always found the time to make people feel special. The fact that he will be missed as far away as London, makes me realise how big a gap he will leave in many people's lives in Santa Cruz. My thoughts are with Penny and the family. Bruce will never grow old, he will always be the silver, floppy haired man who transcended business and wet suits and touched the lives of many. Few of use choose when we go, Bruce passed on doing something loved. Whilst the place may have been of his choosing, the setting and the decade certainly wasn't. I am sure he would agree it was too soon, but deservedly he will become a surfing legend. With all my heart felt sympathies, Neal (Family member and Bruce's English surfing apprentice)

Go gently in to "that good night" alone but un afraid because you have left your mark. Your generosity of spirit and love of life will remain with us forever.
With fondest memories and much love. Meg

Dear Penny,
It's hard for me to imagine that Bruce is gone. I will miss our weekly Rotary meetings, our fun lunches where we discussed all that was wrong with the world and could be fixed. Bruce was an amazing guy who had more passions than most people dream of. He was incredibly devoted to his family and friends. I will miss Bruce and am sorry for your loss.

Family and friends, faith, the cars, the guitars, the houses, the office, the ocean. He had endless irons in the fire. And they all burned white-hot. His mortal body could not keep up. His spirit could not be contained. Bruce has left that mortality, leaving us behind, and leaving us wondering why we couldn't be a bit more like him.
We grieve with you, Penny. We love you.

My Great Uncle Bruce was the rock of my family. I pretty much grew up running around up at his house with his black lab Millie. Every time I went up to see him he was always so happy to see my dad and I and was doing something like working on one of his projects. Even when he was sick and should have been in bed he wouldn't waste any part of life. He was always living life to the fullest. Thats what he was doing when he died, doing what he loved... surfing. We all love you and miss you so much Uncle Bruce, it will truly never be the same without you.

What did't get mentioned was what a great fisherman he was. When we all camped at hume lake we always had a potluck dinner at Aspen Hollow campground and Bruce would bring lots of fish.......He always had time to show all our kids how to fish. Bruce you will be missed!!!!!!!!!

I knew Bruce in my childhood days. He was friends with my parents. And his kids and I would play together. He helped my dad build two guitars in witch I just got handed down one of them a few weeks ago. It brought back many good memories of Bruce. He was a great man and will be missed my many.
