Thank you Dave for always being so fun and so nice!! Tim Fitzgerald, Sharon Fitzgerald, Greg Sulger, and David Simmons would play volleyball with you years ago and then you were so nice that you remembered me when I would see you at Spin class recently. How crazy that this happened to someone so healthy. We all love you. Thank you for being such a happy joy in our lives. I love this photo!
Love,

David was crazy amazing! His ability to surprise and delight on the spot was magical. My husband has known him for 40 years. I relationship was half of that. That was a beautiful ceremony!
Everyday really simple silly crazy things in the middle of the day to make everyone happy. I was working at Whole Foods. I’m short. He’s tall. One day he just picked me up off my feet and held me above my head that I could see how the world looks from his perspective for one second. And I was laughing. He was funny. And more than that he made people laugh and find fun in the world. In the moment.

I knew Dave as a fellow Realtor. He was always somewhat on my radar...seen at tour...but I had the great delight to work with him on a transaction just a few months before he had his stroke. He was so kind! So smart! So empathetic ( I was helping a family to sell their parent's home after their parents had died). His clients loved him. My clients loved him....
and we were all so sad to hear of his stroke.
I will definitely plant a tree for him...what a loss!
I hope that your family finds comfort in the many celebrations of Dave you are reading here....

Dear Dave ,
I havent seen you in some years, but the news is still shocking. I think you were the first person I met down at the old ONeill Harbor store when I used to manage it, that had to kind of physically lower himself a little bit to get through the door way. Just because you were so tall. Thats how I first met you . And like everyone else, the first things I noticed about you was, well of course how tall you were! And your bright bright bright blue eyes and matching grin (a bright grin). I want you to know that it was somewhat torturous standing at the shops giant windows like a sad puppy , watching you and all the guys play volleyball everyday, getting tanner-lol- along with all the other beachy people having fun. Running in all the time for the ball pump cuz you guys kept smashing it . Its a good memory. Of course paddling into you all the time on the water for years... plus all the summers working Ride A Wave with the kids with you and the group. Thanks for showing up at my Pier2Pier paddle race every year and help keeping it going after i moved away. Youre just the biggest, sparkliest dude i ever met in Santa Cruz and i thank you. Oh , and I really appreciated you handing over your copy of The Four Agreements to me- it was the right book at the right time and you knew it. I will miss you. If you would like to reincarnate soon- we would love to have you back...

I will never forget running into Dave a half mile offshore and him instantly and warmly inviting me to join his crew for a paddle. I imagine thats the kind of guy he always was.

I will forever be grateful to Dave for helping to get Main Beach Volleyball club started 20 plus years age. He was such an advocate for youth volleyball and served on our Board for many years. He made an impact on so many people and how great is that. We all need to learn some lessons from Dave.

Dave was one of the first guys I worked out with at Rocky's. He inspired me to push harder on my fitness goals. Loved discussing surfing and Santa Cruz life with him!

David was a gem of a human being and will be missed by so many in our community. Daves big smile and big heart were ever present and he was truly a joy to have as a Thunderbird work colleague. I have so many memories of David on office tour or at our holiday parties that bring a smile to my heart. My deepest condolences to the dear family and friends of David. He would speak fondly of his mother and sisters and of his daughters. He was and will remain a shining star to many.

Sad day. Dave was the King of the Beach! The guy was larger than life in both size and personality. He stood 67, tan, tall, buff and always ready to greet you with a huge smile, shaka and a bro hug. So many memories include Dave. So many early morning paddles down the coast. Tahoe paddle races. Paddles way out deep into Monterey Bay. Once we were out there hed say, Shep, its pretty sharky out here. Bloody Marys and margaritas. He installed a pull-up bar next to his ping pong table. Losers do pull-ups. He had so many stories. On a Tahoe paddle trip, I once found a playlist on his iPod named Sensual Jessica. We all belly laughed and then he went on to smoke us all in the race. We drank margaritas until we fell off our paddle boards in the lake. The guy was 30 years older than me and an inspiration. He was always so nice to me and my family. RIP LEGEND.

Big Man with a bigger heart. He was always upbeat and trying to help others. His commitment to Ride-A-Wave is a great example. He used to take me to Privates to surf. I have a lot of fun stories from hanging out with him there. And we used to take turns taking each other for sushi. We'd kill the sushi bar. Rest in peace Big Dave, the world was better when you were here, and I will miss you.
