Hello Grace:
I doubt if you remember me, but I moved to the Santa Cruz area (Aptos) in the late 60's and met Dewey at the old courts at the Soquel Elementary School. Gene Powell, Dick Purvis, Ton Jue and others played there long before the private clubs began to develop. Dewey took me under his wing and introduced me to many players and got me into the tennis "scene" in the area. We continued to play for many years until I moved out of the immediate area. He was always so gracious to me and we enjoyed many happy times on the tennis court! It was also interesting because I graduated from college in 1961 and went to work for Pacific Telephone, so we also had that in common. My wife Dora and I send our deepest condolences to you and your family! I must tell you (I'm sure no secret to you) that Dewey had a real zest for living and was for me a model in the magical area of real vitality. He loved his tennis and he obviously loved you very much!
Regards,

I worked with Dewey both through the Soquel cemetery and old Wessendorf & Holmes funeral home for many years. A finer man and honest, loyal and committed employee would be very hard to find. It was a pleasure to have known and worked with Dewey.
