Gladys Campbell Obituary

Gladys "Annie" Campbell
Aug. 14, 1934 - Feb. 14, 2014
Resident of Aptos

A private celebration of life will be held in Santa Cruz for Gladys A. Campbell who passed away at Dominican Hospital on February 14, 2014 at the age of 79. Affectionately known to her friends and loved ones as Annie, she was born in Tucumcari, New Mexico, and has lived in Santa Cruz for 35 years.
Annie attended elementary school in the Fresno area, and graduated from San Luis Obispo High School. She later worked as a telephone operator there and was transferred to Santa Cruz in 1954. Her career was shortened when she met the love of her life and husband to be, Mal Campbell, whose job assignments with Chevron called for Annie and Mal to live in many places including, San Jose, Taft, Santa Clara, Fullerton, Ventura, and Danville. Her love for cats always dictated that no matter where they were living, at least one feline companion lived there too.
Throughout the years, Annie had particular loves and passions that came second to the love she had for being a wonderful wife, mother, and friend to many. Fond memories will forever be cherished by her loved ones in New Orleans, where she traveled annually for the past 30 years. Annie loved the people, the culture, and all around feeling of being a part of the "Big Easy". When her family was young, Annie dedicated many hours of her time to the Camp Fire Girls organization, and with her son's Little League programs.
She leaves her husband of 59 years, Mal Campbell of Aptos, her son, Larry Campbell of San Ramon, and her two daughters, Lori Campbell of Oxnard, and LeAnn Campbell of Santa Cruz. She was preceded in death by her son, Mike Campbell, in 2011.
Annie also leaves many extended family members including Cliff and Gerry King, Elisa and Dwayne Lee, and the Celina Garcia Family.
A private burial will take place at a later date. If you would like to light a candle online and share your thoughts and reflections with her family, please visit www.pacificgardenschapel.com. Any kind acts of charity can be made in Annie's memory to the SPCA and to Hospice of Santa Cruz County, 940 Disc Drive Scotts Valley, CA 95066.
