John Harte Obituary

We are devastated to share that our beloved father, John Harte, passed away on Monday, October 30th 2023 after a year long battle with bile duct cancer. Born December 25th 1944 to George and Kathleen Harte in Devon, England, Dad lived a remarkable and rich life. After graduating from Exeter University in 1966, he lived in England and the US for the majority of his life and also spent time in Germany. The friendships from Exeter were some of the most critical and important relationships of Dad's life. He was fiercely loyal to the people closest to him and prioritized them throughout his life. Dad had a long and accomplished career including serving as CEO and holding many leadership roles at numerous companies before retiring to travel and spend more time with his family. He loved riding his motorcycle with his youngest brother Paul when he and his wife Julie would travel with the family. He enjoyed reading multiple daily newspapers from around the world with varied perspectives, listening to all kinds of music from Jazz to U2 to Pearl Jam to Opera to the Moody Blues, spending time in the garden, keeping up on technology, discussing politics and being near the ocean. Dad was a wonderful conversationalist and was always available to give a listening ear and his sound advice. While he did many things well, the roles he excelled at most were father and grandfather. He married Lesley Channing and had two girls, Zo‰ and Alexandra. His second marriage was to Brigitte Janker with whom he lived in Aptos, California when he died. John was predeceased by his first wife Lesley, but is survived by his brothers Paul and Peter Harte and their families, Brigitte and her children and his daughters with Lesley, Zo‰ Harte and Alexandra Harte-Newby and their husbands Ken Kronquist and Keith Harte-Newby, as well as his grandchildren who believed he hung the moon - the two sets of twins, Harry and Maximilian Kronquist and Georgina and Julian Harte-Newby. He will be missed every day of our lives. We had a small private service to commemorate Dad's life.
