Ray died peacefully in Eugene, Oregon on March 23, 2017 at the age of 75. He was a long-time resident of Scotts Valley before moving to Eugene in 2016.
Ray grew up in the Bay Area, and was a college and law school graduate at the University of San Francisco. He served as the City Attorney for both Salinas and Scotts Valley before enjoying a career as a public finance attorney. Ray had a wonderful sense of humor, was an avid reader, and a Golden State Warriors fan.
Ray is survived by his wife of 42 years, Susan, his children Vince Shields, Ryan Haight, and Nancy Halseide, his daughter-in-law Keturah Shields, and his five grandchildren (Illora, Illyssa, Iliza, LilyAnn, and Adalyn). Ray also leaves his brother Robert Haight Sr., his nephew Robert Haight Jr., and his nieces Cathy Weist and Laura Yee. His brother Ronald preceded him in death.
Ray's family will be holding a private ceremony to honor his life.
