Woody survived the Vietnam War and found meaning from that experience. He worked to create a more peaceful world. We
carried the Bill Motto Post "WAGE PEACE" banner at a demon-stration in San Francisco and stood together outside the military recruiters office in Capitola urging people to find peaceful solutions to conflict.
And at the Del Mar Theatre Woody led a procession of Veterans into the building to help prevent the 2nd Gulf War.
Wood also had a passion for baseball so he started the Maverick's softball team. Those games and after parties brought joy to a lot of people and it wouldn't have happened without him. Woody created love through his family and friends.
Woody made a positive impact in our community: he waged peace, shared joy, and built loving relationships. A good man has passed but will not be forgotten.
Your Comrade, Rick

always enjoyed seeing him at Harvey West Park in the summer. He was on the diamond with the boys and I was with Santa Cruz Gals. Loved his spirit that he showed the kids. May he Rest In Peace

Woody Bookout was such a pillar of my childhood... I suppose most kids who played baseball in Santa Cruz county could say that, but Woody was my coach! I played soccer alongside Troy the year before, so I was flattered that he remembered me. I remember how lucky that felt, how proud I was to be a member of the Dodgers. This man brought love and joy to the game! But not just the playful side of baseball, also the discipline, diligence and the focus. He had the most beautiful balance of grit and grace that is so rare in human beings. What a truly inspiring man, and what a lucky man I am to have walked along side him on the baseball field, and through life. Love you, Woody.
