Henry Kavanaugh Obituary

Henry J. Kavanaugh, Jr. Henry John Kavanaugh, Jr. (Hammer), 55, rode away on November 4, 2012. A lifelong resident of Santa Fe, he was the oldest of five sons, born in Los Alamos on December 12, 1956, to Isabel and the late Henry J. Kavanaugh, Sr. Henry was a 1975 graduate of Santa Fe High School and served 4 years in the US Navy on a mine-sweeper ship. He later became a heating, ventilation and air conditioning expert. Known as the "Doc", he could fix anything. An avid biker, he had two Harleys and took many cross-country road trips. He enjoyed working on his house and in his yard, but valued and loved his family above all else. He had a nickname for everyone and made the best hash browns. His beautiful smile, sense of humor and generosity will be missed forever. Henry met his beautiful wife, Dorothy, in 2010 and they married on July 12, 2012 in Santa Fe. While their time together was short, they created many cherished, beautiful memories. Henry is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Padilla Kavanaugh, his daughters, Roxanne (Aaron Mente) of Santa Fe, Jayme of Los Angeles, his step-daughter, Shelby, his two grandsons, Damon and Jesse Mente and his brothers; Paul (Karla), Gary and Tim all of Santa Fe. Also surviving are his niece, Karley and nephew and godson, Arlen. His father, Henry J. Kavanaugh, Sr., his brother Karl Kavanaugh, his paternal grandparents Nicholas and Henrietta Kavanaugh and his maternal grandparents Vianes and Josefina Rodriguez and other dear aunts and uncles preceded Henry in death. Pallbearers will be: Manny Maestas, Felipe Vigil, Danny Anaya, Melvin Lujan, Arthur Kavanaugh, Jr., and Donald Sena. Honorary pallbearers are Tommy Gallegos and Gilbert Gonzalez. A visitation will be held on Monday, November 12, 2012 from 4-5:00 p.m. at Santa Maria de la Paz. A rosary will be prayed at 5:00 p.m. on November 12, 2012 at Santa Maria de la Paz Church located at 11 College Drive in Santa Fe. The funeral mass will be at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Santa Maria de la Paz, followed by the burial at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Henry's memory to Toys for Tots at www.toysfortots.org Berardinelli Family Funeral Service 1399 Luisa Street, Santa Fe, NM 87505 (505)984-8600 Please sign our guestbook for the family at: www.berardinellifuneralhome.com

Henry my long time friend. I was totally saddened when I heard the terrible news.. We went to school together and saw each other all the time and our conversations were always good and always happy to see each other. You lived right across the street from my cuz Bennie-Leigh Baca on Avenida de las Campanas. It's been tough this year lost my brother then you lost your brother and Dad and now you. May God take you under his wings and comfort your soul and you will look down on us and help us in these times of mourning. I loved you as a brother and will never forget you bro. RIP bro.

I was greatly saddened to hear of Henry's passing. He was a joy to be around, and was a considerate and grounded person. I don't think I ever saw him on the road on anything but his Harley and rode with him and other friends a few times. My deepest sympathy to his family. "Ride on" Henry.

November 11, 2012

My husband and I would like to express our heart-felt condolences to Henry's new wife Dorothy, family and loved ones, esp his daughters Roxanne, Jayme and their mother Anna Kavanaugh. We, like many of his friends, go back a long way, with many years of fond and unforgettable memories of Henry. We've had the pleasure of riding with Henry throughout the years to many biker runs, including Sturgis (James). There's a lot of history with Henry's family, his daughters, their mother, his friends and the Martinez family, as well as a lot of good laughs that will always be treasured in our hearts. Ride on and God bless you Henry!

November 11, 2012

My husband, Stephen Vargas, and I would like to extend our greatest condolences to your family during this time of loss. Henry and I went to high school together and would run into each other, periodically, throughout these many years. We would always update each other with what was going on in our lives. Henry always displayed interest and care in our conversations; thus, felt that he was a genuine man at heart. My husband worked with Henry at the New Mexico School for the Deaf and spoke of him with high regard. Stephen and I were very saddened to hear of Henry's passing; however, were happy to read, in his obituary, that Henry found happiness on this earth spending time with his beautiful family, and working towards the good of others. Henry was a great man! May his soul rest in peace. Sincerely, Theresa Vargas
