JANET BARE Obituary

JANET WILLIAMS BARE Janet Williams Bare passed away October 27, 2012, in Chromo, CO, in the home she loved, surrounded by her beloved husband, children and pets. Janet was 61, and demonstrated remarkable courage, dignity and grace while battling pancreatic cancer for over three years. She was an inspiration to family and friends. When asked about her upcoming death, Janet responded, "I can't say I'm afraid of anything. I feel I am on a journey and can't wait to see what happens next." Janet was born August 8, 1951 in Concord, MA, to Paul and Barbara Williams. She graduated from the University of Massachusetts, volunteered in Côte d'Ivoire through Peace Corps, and in 1980, traveled west with future husband Carey Bare and settled in Santa Fe. They were married on May 29, 1982. Janet lived in Santa Fe and Los Alamos with Carey and their children, Lucas and Hallie, before moving to Chromo, CO in 2009. Janet was loved by many for her generosity, humor, thoughtfulness, wisdom, honesty, selflessness and loyalty. She is survived by her husband, Carey Bare; son, Carey Lucas Bare; and daughter, Hallie Mahowald; mother, Barbara Williams; sister, Judith Williams; brothers: Paul and Glenn Williams; and many nieces and nephews. Janet's family invites friends to celebrate her life at the Gerald Peters Gallery in Santa Fe on November 11 from 2-5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Janet requested donations be made to the Janet Bare Spring Creek Restoration Fund through the Chama Peak Land Alliance, PO Box 6190, Bozeman, MT 59771.

Eleven years have passed. I came across a card she had sent me when we were in our 30´s. Even with some 40 years since I had received it, I still burst out laughing. Jan, wherever you are, I hope it´s a wonderful place. I love and miss you.

I often think about Jan. Not just on calendar events like a holiday or her birthday, but in regular life. Something happens or something is said and her quick wittedness plays in my head and seriously I will burst out laughing. I miss her as strongly now as I did 9 years ago. I´ll be 70 next month and if there were a way of spending my birthday with her I would forfeit everything else just to hang out with her for an afternoon. There was no one like her.

You were my "go to" person during life's highs and lows. You had the best answers, the clever come-back and an unstoppable wit. I will miss you tremendously, my dear friend. As Ray Charles sang, "I'll be seeing you".
