DR. MARIANNE ROGERS PHD

Dr. Marianne Rogers was a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and came to California in 1954. She was married for 33 years to Samuel A. Rogers who gained national recognition for his work with missile fuels at Vandenberg Air Force Base.
Dr. Rogers graduated with honors and held six degrees in education and psychology from the University of Pennsylvania, University of California, Allient University of San Diego, University of Costa Mesa and the University of Arizona and was a member of American Association of University Women. She served as instructor and professor at Allan Hancock College for 18 years. Her professional life services centered in public and private schools and her private reading clinics in eight states and abroad. She wrote several reading textbooks for adults with developmental needs. She received the National Outstanding Educator's award for her distinguished educational life work, and as of the year 2006 served over 70 years directly in education, psychology and religious and charitable works.
Dr. Rogers and her husband created the House of Ruth, the first shelter for homeless women and children in Santa Maria and the first soup kitchen for homeless and jobless men. She directed USO centers in Pennsylvania and New Hampshire. Her life's mission was to continually aid, teach and defend all ages for their fullest growth.
In California, Dr. Rogers served actively as a volunteer for patients of Marian Medical Center, Marian Extended Care, and Country Oaks Care Center. Additionally, she was a lector at masses and minister to the sick at St. Mary's parish. For several years she taught Baptismal Preparation classes and Parental Skills. Private sessions were offered in Marriage, Family and Child counseling. I will always be grateful and appreciative when I remember Dr. Rogers. Her guidance, true interest in her students and availability were constant and kind. As a Creative Writing Instructor at Allan Hancock College, Mrs. Rogers encouraged each student to "write about what they know", always telling us that our lives had so much value.Mrs. Rogers was a generous member of the Santa Maria community , and always a life long learner and Teacher.
