STERLING – Scott V. "Dirty" Thayer, 53, of Sterling, died Saturday March 13, 2021 at Javon Bea Hospital-Riverside in Rockford.

He was born on February 29, 1968 in Sterling, the son of Andrew and Kay (Zigler) Thayer. He attended Sterling schools. Scott married Dawn L. Lapp on August 15, 1992. He was employed at Dana Corp in Sterling, where he was very close to his co-workers and a dedicated employee at the plant. He loved spending his free time with his wife, kids and grand pups. He had enjoyed playing darts, disc golf and poker.

Survivors include his wife, Dawn; his four children, Kellen Thayer (Mercedes Mancera) of Sterling, Tyler Thayer of Sterling, Jarrica Thayer (Jaxen Wright) of Rock Falls and Addisen Thayer of Sterling; his mother, Kay Thayer of Sterling; his sisters, Wendy Pedersen of Lanark, Fay Schipper of Morrison and Mary Lewis of Sterling; and his brothers, Frank (Bonnie) Thayer of Sterling, John (Sue) Thayer of Rock Falls and Jimmy Thayer of Lanark.

He was preceded in death by his father, and his sister Cathy Thayer.

Masks and social distancing requirements will be in effect to allow 50 persons at a time to attend a public visitation on Saturday, March 20, 2021 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the McDonald Funeral Home, 505 First Ave. in Sterling. A private funeral ceremonywill take place, with burial concluding at Oak Knoll Memorial Park.
